Episode 284 - Sony's first portable system really tried to do things different. It seemed to focus more on giving players the premium home game experience on the go compared to having severely watered down ports and games. Let's take a look at the system and a bunch of its games!

What was your favorite PSP game? Why? Why is THAT of all things your favorite game on the system? Why not another game? Tell me!
  • ONLY Game Sack can make a review about a system 15 years late, and reignite my level of excitement from the system's original release ... times 100!!! It's like I warped to 2005 -- but kept all the massively built-up nostalgia and countless memories I have now... I freakin' love this channel.
  • A little known fact.. Sony added extra PSP video support into their PlayStation 3D Display. If you connect one via the component cable, it will detect the PSP, and fill the entire screen space without any black bars. It looks pretty nice on the 24" screen too. The PS 3D Display also looks like a giant PSP Go, so it all makes sense. :)

I love just driving around the GTA games listening to the talk radio
  • From an aesthetic perspective, the PSP is my favorite handheld. I remember buying one around launch and being blown away by the systems capabilities in terms of visuals. While a lot of the major titles that were pushed are inferior to their console counterparts and lost some of their appeal, there are a lot of great gems, especially in the RPG category.
  • I always wanted a psp. I went with Nintendo DS back then. I still like the DS, but the grass always seemed greener on psp side.

PSP still feels new to me, especially since I still have games on the backlog still in their wrapping.

I freaking loved Jeanne D'arc when it first came out. I bought it at launch & loved every minute of it. It's a fantastic little hidden gem on the system for those that like strategy RPG's.

Streaming sopranos from my PS3 to my PSP was some mind-blowing shit back in the day.

I modded my psp with Satalite connection while deployed in Afghanistan...great times 🤣

When I was living in Qatar this was the only gaming system I had. Bought one at a local electronics shop. Pretty impressive little bit of hardware.

The console that introduced me to hacking, err, software modification, home brew and the mod community in general. If your looking for an emulation beast, a modded PSP is far more accurate than a lot of the portable emulation devices on the market today. Unfortunately the clock speed will never allow it to run most of the 32 bit generation but it handles the 8 and 16 bit eras like a champ. The NEO GEO and SNK emulators are stunning and the number of titles you can play is mind boggling.

Man it still shocks me to find genuine, quality content I never knew existed on YouTube. im still a hardcore gamer at 45yrs. , and being able to watch quality gaming entertainment like this is such a treat at my age.

Kinda surprised Joe didn't mention that the PSP had an original "fat" model and then later two versions of the PSP "slim" not to mention the craptacular PSP-Street, or the fact the system had a pretty rampant problem with dead pixels. Still, really enjoyed the PSP, never had a DS.

The PSP had some really great exclusives. Luminus, Locoroco, The Patapon series, and Exit were a ton of fun. My favorite will always be Gitarooman though its one of my favorite rhythm games.

Hot damn, I never expected Game Sack to take a look at my favorite handheld. Thank you, Joe.

The PSP was pretty damn ahead of it's time when it came to portable gaming, as was the PS Vita. It's still a pretty amazing piece of hardware and is still one of the very best all around portable systems you can own once hacked, as you can play just about any system you'd want on it.

I'm shocked you didn't mention WTF: Work Time Fun. I was addicted to that game.
