Is Swedish Fast Food BETTER Than American? | The Great Burger Showdown

Published 2024-05-19
Max is a fast food chain in Sweden and their hamburgers have been voted the best in Sweden. But how do they stack up against burgers from America, the home of fast food? I decided to travel to the US to find out.

To give Max a proper comparison, I ate at 9 different fast food restaurants in America and then I gave each burger a ranking based on taste, appearance and texture. These were the different fast food restaurants I used for comparison - and just one of them is also available in Sweden:

- Whataburger
- McDonald's
- Jack in the Box
- In-n-Out
- Wendy's
- Carl's Jr.
- Sonic Drive-In
- Five Guys
- White Castle

As a bonus I also visited Big Boy, but since that's not a fast food restaurant per se, I disqualified it from this comparison. Also, I was planning on visiting a few more places like Burger King and Shake Shack - but there's only so many burgers a man can stomach!

How does Max from Sweden do against these competitors? And which fast food brand has the best burger? Well, you'll just have to check out to video to see the result.

Found this channel just couple of weeks ago, and man, I like it! Good luck in your future tasty endeavours :)
  • Absolutely brilliant! This is THE travel blog that people need to know!

I tried a Max burger last summer and I thought it was really good. Taste is everything!

Was in Stockholm a couple of weeks ago and tried Max. Much better burgers than the ones at fast food chains in the UK at least!

Yep the Max burger has a good taste and tastes great in Norway and I can also supercharge my car, so kudos to Max burgers. 👍

I have to say that I do like a good avocado bacon burger, but yeah I agree with you about a lot of "extras" on the burger. Sometimes I have to jump up and down to get something without cheese (I hate American cheese). Sonic is a lot of fun because you can get TOTS and the cherry lime is tasty! (I'm from Northern California and I think In and Out is definitely mid. And I've had the "seekrit menu" stuff.) My favorite chain here is Habit Burger - char grilled burgers cooked to order, good sandwiches, and soft serve ice cream. It's fast food but cooked to order. Smaller chain. I also really like Five Guys - their fries are very much to my taste. (I always get the "mini" orders because it's so much food.)
  • The U.S. was like, "Gonna give Miro a sunburn!!!" That, or all the burgers got to you. But...what a great and fun video! If it's any indication of what's to come from your recent travels in the states, there's a lot of wonderful videos coming. While I've not had Whataburger in decades, that looked a bit different than what I remember (they were acquired a handful of years ago and some people said they changed), but much of your description of the onions and mustard sounded accurate. I've not seen the massive Las Vegas location, so that was fun to see as well. And man, as a kid I LOVED White Castle 'cause I could eat so many. We didn't have them in the northern Chicago suburbs, so I only got White Castle when visiting relatives in the city after we moved out. (And you'd think I was a demigod when I told friends how many burgers I ate 😀) I only worked at McDonalds one day in my life, and almost 40 years later, I can recall how evil Big Mac sauce became when hit with very hot water when cleaning those bins!

So, since you went to Wendy's early, you probably got a freshly made one which could contribute to why it was on par. I do have to ask about your health and energy levels travelling around the US and having this diet. Also, since you're exploring the US, I have to recommend Portland Oregon and Brooklyn NYC. I'm in Gainesville Florida, but it's more political than touristy, however if you want a taste of deeper US those are two areas I recommend exploring. There's a show called Portlandia that used to be good as well, but it might have not aged the best. You'd definitely be able to find more 'craft' burgers in those areas, and also the best vegan food you'll have in your life in the Pacific Northwest. Thanks for the videos btw, and love the hat in the last visit lmao!

Didn’t see you out today, took the boat trip to Sandhamn. Lovely lunch and walk afterwards. Your tips are making the trip better. I’m making the locals smile (laugh) with my pretty awful Swedish. Oh well, I’m trying😂

A regular Wendy's Single Burger would have been a more fair comparison, and IMHO it ranks lower b/c it is too bland such that one can taste the overly oily-ness.

I think the best title for this video should have been the best burger in America. Would garner more views. Or edit the same content with a focus on ranking the best burger in America. Great video! I was tasting the burgers with you 😁😋
  • Had Max burger when I was there, was pretty decent for a fast food place. But I follow burger dudes YouTube channel and they highlight some amazing burger places in Sweden. More expensive than Max obviously but some amazing tasting burgers!
  • In and Out claims they do not freeze any of their ingredients in their stores, which limits their expansion because of the impacts on its supply chain. They do make a good burger. If you are ever in Minnesota, a "Butter Burger" at Culver's is a must...along with their frozen custard.

Such a cool video! You're a pleasant guy. I think it is hard to beat Max. Is interesting that the price for a burger meal in the US is almost as much as here, while in the 90's the burger in the US was much cheaper than here.

There should be a new "Vagabond star 🌟 " rating on burgers. If Michelin can do it, why not 🤷‍♀️, I am visiting Stockholm in August with a 16 year old so your review is very much appreciated. Thank you 😊
  • @MC-bm3cy
We had burgers here in Stockholm at Flippin’ Burgers, they were pretty good. I recommend a try.
  • @MomsterGirl
I never clicked a video so fast!!! This is extremely relevant to my interests!! EDIT: I'm definitely team McDonalds burgers over Max burgers, but I respect your opinion 🙏 Good video!
  • You will have to come back. You missed the famous Burger King and here in California (maybe elsewhere?) is the Habit Burger Grill.
  • I love MAX … well I used to love MAX back in 2013 at least , don’t know now…… best fast food franchise ( burgers in Europe) 😊!! Thanks Bro , another great video 🤍🤍🤍🤍
