Autistic

Published 2022-10-15
I discovered that I am Autistic at the age of 44. This came about due to a series of events that has helped shape my future moving forward. I hope you enjoy my story, comments and questions are welcomed.

Apologies for the camera auto-focus, I didn't realise it was turned on.

  • Very proud of you for bringing this out to your YouTube community. My wife says she thinks I’m on the spectrum somewhere but never been tested. I’ve read some things and watched some videos and agree somewhere on there but not to the point of getting diagnosed. It definitely opens your eyes to why you do some things the way you do them.
  • I was also diagnosed very late in life. You touched on many themes that I've been going through. It is definitely helpful to finally have some answers to many long outstanding questions. Being on the spectrum isn't a curse, in many ways it's a gift with some caveats. I think it's great and courageous to talk publicly about ASD, I think there are many more of us who simply haven't had their awakening moment (yet).

Hey Smerkin, came across this video while looking around at Satisfactory videos. Your path is very familiar to me. IT/Autism/streaming/depression/etc.. I am happy to see that you are being honest with yourself, as I can understand how masking and headspace can prevent those that from happening.

Welcome to the family, reunions are never because socializing is hard. Glad to hear getting diagnosed has helped you understand yourself better, it was quite the life change for me, also diagnosed far too late in life, but like a wise Snutt once told me, it be like it do.

I'm only seeing this now, 8 months later, but I'm happy to see that you've made the right choices for you and you're looking after yourself. Thank you for the time you did spend with the community, you served as great company through some very lonely times. I hope you're doing well! -Kyuubi

Thank you so much for this update, Smerk. It’s great to hear that this journey is one that has been fruitful in that you understand yourself better and I imagine it opens up more doors for you to work with yourself - rather than against yourself. Ofc I look forward to anything you choose to do/make/release in the future, but most importantly I just wish you to be happy and healthy. It’s the only thing that matters! Also thanks for including an update on Randy! ❤
  • Hey, so good to see you looking so relaxed. Really pleased you are coming to terms with yourself and your diagnosis. Sometimes knowing your 'triggers' can help so much in how you deal with certain situations and people. I'll be honest I do miss your streams, especially seeing Randy (I used to have a GS called Molly - I still miss her after eight years) but at the end of the day you have to do what is right for you. Post when you can, its great to see these updates from you - all the best; Farrelly

I wish I had seen this sooner. I have some catch up to do! Thank you for the share, Smerkin. It's a great thing when we can find explanations, and know ourselves a little better. All the best to Randy, you, and your partner! <3

  • Hey Smerkin, Thank you for venting your thoughts. A very packed video of information. You’ve done a good thing and opened up to us. You didn’t have too. I also want to congratulate you on your move with your partner. I hope this doesn’t effect further streams in the future. Nevertheless, I respect you and always have my friend. Your a great guy. All the very best , Englishman
