Yes, I grew up not watching Disney movies. It may be hard to believe, but that's the truth. I've only seen La Belle et la BĆŖte (french version of The Beauty and the Beast), and Angels in the Outfield. That being said... I hope you're ready for my exploration of Disney animated movies!!! Fun fact, Jeremy Irons (Scar) threw his voice out singing the song Be Prepared. Jim Cummings best known for playing Winnie the Pooh, Tigger and Darkwing Duck was hired to come in and finish the song. After Scar yells the line, ā€œYOU WONā€™T GET A SNIFF WITHOUT ME!ā€ It switches from Jeremy Irons to Jim Cummings for the remainder of the song. The transition is pretty seamless and unless you know, you probably wonā€™t hear the difference but itā€™s there.

I can't imagine a childhood without Disney movies. Until I was about 7 or 8, they were all I had seen, with a couple of exceptions.
  • It doesn't matter how many times I've seen the movie, the scene where Simba finds Mufasa dead in the gorge always gets me in the heart. Also, I am very glad they cast James Earl Jones as Mufasa. Two of my favorite voice roles of his are Mufasa and Darth Vader.

I was born in the 90s, such a great time for Disney movies. This one in particular is my absolute favourite, itā€™s so epic and magical!

Fun fact (thats probably already mentioned). The "lions roars" used in this movie were actually Tiger Roars because real lions don't sound fierce enough.
  • I love that Scar's weakness is consistent; he likes to play with his food, leading to the mouse escaping, Simba managing to run away and also ultimately defeating him. This film is one of my favourites, the plot, characters, animation, music and voice acting combine together beautifully. You should definitely check out the sequel.

Elton Johns "Can you feel the love tonight" that plays during the credits right after that powerful Hans Zimmer finish is soo beautiful. The music video is a nice 90s throwback as well

Jeremy Irons is absolutely amazing in this role as Scar! I love to hate him. "Long live the king..."

ā€œThe past can hurt but the way i see it you can either run from it, or learn from it!ā€. Thatā€™s such a deep and powerful line from any of the animated Disney movies ever. It holds a special place in my heart because itā€™s motivational and encouraging to know that you have the power to do anything that you want to make anything happen and achieve everything that you want in your life. The Lion King is easily among my top five favorite animated Disney movies of all time aside from Beauty And The Beast, The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, and The Hunchback Of Notre Dame.

This is top tier Disney. The soundtrack was huge when it came out too. It even helped to revitalize Elton John's career. The movie though... Just heartbreaking. Hamlet for kids.

"Is he like a witch doctor?" Close! Rafiki is a shaman, a person regarded as having access to, and influence in, the world of good and evil spirits.
  • @nickperkins8477
Child Simba is voiced by Jonathan Taylor Thomas. Adult Simba is voiced by Matthew Broderick.
  • @nataliefaust7959
Pumba: "If not frend, why frend shape?" The second he lays his eyes on Simba. XD Such a masterpiece across the board. I can't imagine not growing up with it. Glad you enjoyed it! ā™„
  • @joshuacoldwater
The best selling release to vhs sequel Disney EVER DID was The Lion King 2: Simbaā€™s Pride and if you liked the music in this one, you will LOVE the music in that one. I still tear up when I hear some of the tracks.
  • @squeebers
28:51 Chills! Every time! Simba hadn't roared up til this point, his father motivated him with "Remember" to dig deep and roar! So good!

"Nothing. What's the motto with you?" šŸ˜‚šŸ¤£šŸ˜‚šŸ¤£šŸ˜‚šŸ¤£

Adult Simba: I know what I have to do, but going back means I'll have to face my past. I've been running from it for so long. [Rafiki hits Simba on the head with his stick] Adult Simba: Ow! Jeez! What was that for? Rafiki: It doesn't matter. It's in the past. [laughs] Adult Simba: Yeah, but it still hurts. Rafiki: Oh yes, the past can hurt. But from the way I see it, you can either run from it or learn from it.
  • @blacksheep8427
"Do you know what he does to younglings?" It took me a second. Brava!!!
  • Mathew Broderick took this roll because he thought it was a dub or western adaptation of the anime kimba the white lion. Also, Scar's voice actor blew his voice out during "be prepared" it's on the line "you won't get a sniff without me"
