I saw Vince play back in '94. Absolutely great. He's a super nice down to earth guy. A few years back he played at my local winery. The night before the show, a couple winery employees were out setting up cones in the parking lot. Vince steps out of his bus and asked if he could help set cones 'cause he was bored and it looked like fun. So they all had fun setting up cones. That's so cool. Little things like that make a lasting impression on people.

A humble Legend. Vince Gill, as good as they get.
  • A man like him that can play steel like that, I just have all the respect in the world for them. They're geniuses in my book.

I always felt that the pedal steel guitar is a very technical instrument. Now I know it is. Paul Franklin must be a special kind of genius to be able to control it and create such wonderful sounds. Well done!

Vince Gill. One of the best in the business. True talent, and a personality to match
  • @JohnFriberg
You know what I love about Jason? He doesn't get in the way of the people he interviews. SO tired of other guys not letting people finish their sentences. Great stuff.

That white telecaster is iconic to Vince Gill, he plays it ALL THE TIME it is 100% the guitar I associate with him. That's so cool that it's an authentic 53' Telecaster, he bought it before he was famous for a great price back home, he doesn't just let it collect dust he plays it so often it has had to be re-fretted dozens of times, and it's still his number 1 all these years later. I love that.

Franklin steels have some of the best tone out there designed by pure genius. Paul Franklin is a very talented and humble guy.

Paul Franklin... no words for that man... the depth of that knowledge, coupled with a staggering technique and feel... Oh man.... This before Vince started using Kelton Swade guitars, I understand he is a huge fan of them, excellent builder

Vince is such a calm and homely guy, I mean listen to his voice. Just sounds like a well balanced person telling a bit of history.
  • @MikeSuttonXerox
At 12:50 the sound Paul makes with the Steel Guitar sounds exactly like the intro to “For Those About to Rock” ....pretty awesome!
  • @HC_GUITAR
Saw paul franklin in 1992 with dire straits, blew my mind with the steel guitar parts he played. Mark knopfler introduced him as the best pedal steel player in the world...enough said.
  • @spigmu2274
They just don't come any more real (and high functioning!) than these two guys. What a pleasure to watch.
  • The sound of the pedal steel is just beautiful. I had no idea so much theory was involved in playing one.  Great review PG!
