One thing I do really appreciate is that the FL and ML are actually portrayed as being fighters of equal skill who help each other out vs. hyping up the FL and then having her be constantly a damsel in distress in fights. Also the FL's fabric weapon and how she chooses to do primarily non-lethal damage (and they show what happens when she chooses to do lethal damage holy shit) vs. the ML's fan and how he goes in right for the kill is really reflective of their character's personalities, so I thought that was cool detail
  • Haha I agree with her changing from “casual” clothes to supposedly “breathtaking” clothes was not very impressive lol.

I am crazy addicted to "Who Rules the World"! Thank you Netflix. I haven't seen as many C-dramas as you have, so so much of this story is all new to me and I love it. I know that how quickly they get around the continent is not realistic, but I just love the love story. I usually stick to BL dramas, but this was amazing. Yang Yang is so amazing. I will watch anything with him in it.
  • @lindazager
The drama between the director and the producer is more amusing than the drama it self lol 😂

I love this drama simply because it's never boring. Every episode is exciting. Most dramas nowadays are boring and draggy in the first half but this one is different. It reminds me of the old time hong kong fast pace wuxia series but with much better effects. I actually enjoyed the fast fighting scenes rather than the slow ones in many dramas nowadays. Love every minute of it. I wish it was longer though like maybe 50 episodes. I feel like they cut out many scenes to make it shorter but it made some parts of the storyline missing. For example how bai feng xi's master was killed and how she was framed. And that foolish Langhua just pieced her with a sword . I feel like the real story was definitely missing in there.

I just finished this one. Frankly, the story has its plot holes, and it became more about schemes with the queen and brother. At first, I did feel they were kinda interesting, like the exam cheating case, but then, everything was solved smoothly. It was hard to feel tension after that. The protagonists' halo was large. And you can expect all kinds of cliche scenarios you've seen before to appear. When I saw how conveniently Bai Fengxi was saved at one point, it even felt like a parody genre production. LOL. However, I was very entertained throughout the journey because of the romance. The dynamics of the leads are just pure joy to watch. Their healthy relationship developed naturally, and there was trust, genuine friendship and actual communication! They treated each other with respect, as they didn't try to impose their views or desires or even life goals on each other, and they were both able to make sacrifices for the other. No stupid misunderstandings or separations. They are a very cute couple, and that's truly what made the show not only salvageable, but fun even! Can anyone recommend me dramas with couples like this one, please?

Zhao Lusi imprressed me here because I'm very used to her acting all cute and silly, but here she does have that air, but she is much more badass. It makes me happy to see her acting grow more from Romance of Tiger and Rose (I've seen more but that one was the most entertaining for me), to her as the side couple in The Long Ballad, and now this. The drama is very visually pleasing as you've mentioned and entertaining enough, so I'm glad I started watching it. It's by no means an amazing drama that I can't stop watching, but it's a chill watch. I agree with your emphasis on how this is not a true wuxia drama and it doesn't bring that type of thrill from fightning scenes like the og ones. Side note: your fan moves are so cool haha

1 gold mine rating from aveneux 👀 is already so good lol I remember u saying it'll be a miracle if this drama turned out decent & u had 0 expectations from it. Despite all its flaws in actually loving it so far & now that I've watched ep 16 it's so good!! The best episode so far! Really loving leads chemistry & storyline I like it it doesn't bore me, I don't skip scenes which is good . After disappointing 2021 specially with costume dramas I'm enjoying this one way more than I expected. Zhao lusi is doing amazing here!!

I agree with everything in your review except for one fundamental aspect. I find the story fascinating and satisfying, so far. The storyline keeps me looking forward to the next episode to find out what happens next to our formidable pair. Most important, I am not bored. This may not be the most sophisticated plot line ever presented but the action and the scheming are sufficiently entertaining without being too stressful. This drama strikes just the right note for me in terms of escapism without insulting my intelligence, annoying me or provoking undue depression and anxiety.
  • I enjoyed this review and sorely hit as Im one of those people drawn to dramas when the leads are good looking. I can forgive illogical scenes and storylines as long as the episode can keep me stay awake from start to finish without urging me to skip forward and WRTW has achieved that. The CG efforts are well done and there are enough fighting scenes that captivates my eyes! 💜💜❤🙋‍♀️🦊
  • I’m definitely a Yan fen lol. But yang yang and Zhao lusi have such a cute chemistry, I’m willing to look over all the obvious plot holes. One thing I’d like to mention is how so far Bai feng xi as a female lead who is supposed to be smart, skilled is as good as Hei feng xi ( at least the way the story is moving). Hopefully this is consistent in the future episodes and the fl doesn’t magically turn dumb. I was super worried about the skill disparity between two characters who are supposed to be equals as we see with many, many dramas so it’s refreshing to see a female lead who is truly the male leads equal excluding all the other common sense stuff.
  • I’ve just finished the drama and personally enjoyed it a lot! I do take note of some of its flaws, but i find it to be insignificant int the grand scheme of things when compared to the aspects I enjoyed in this drama. Personally I think this is the most BALANCEDLY WRITTEN ML & FL of a drama of this genre! The court politics (though there’s some shortcuts in how they solve it) are still quite intriguing to me and keep me seated. And despite some people feeling like the romantic progress between ML-FL was slow, i feel it evolves at the right pace true to their individual personality, which is focusing on finding their own version of happiness/true self and just happen to find someone along the way. Plus it’s such a healthy relationship full of trust and communication (minus the hiding their royal identity part).

This has been my favourite drama in 2022. I'm obsessed with it that I count the days for more episodes. When I choose a new drama to watch I actually decide not by the plot but for how eye pleasing the main leads are. I'm guilty... xD
  • I don't think anyone should be offended by your review and hopefully no one gets offended of my very bias and highest rating just because I love the main leads. This drama is my lifeline this first half of 2022 so I am quite happy.
  • @justbogart
Love everything about the drama especially the chemistry of Zhao Lusi and Yangyang.
  • @Rouzmary
Oh yes, don't know if it's her improvement overall in acting or done specifically for this role, but I most certainly noticed right away that her posture and stance are really great. Definitely stood out in a good way. Even when her character is slouching around or being lazy, it is done so very beautifully. I hope its part of her evolving acting skills and she keeps the posture for her future projects, definitely is pleasing to the eye.

I kind of wanna call this type of dramas neo-wuxia. It's not traditional Wuxian but it does have those very wuxia tropes, example- snow sword stride. Anyways I loved ancient love poetry last year and I for once actually enjoy this particular light-fabric clothing style. I've been enjoying this drama quite a bit. Zhao Lusi and Yang Yang have a cute chemistry that has been enjoyable so far. Hope the later part of the drama doesn't disappoint either! Oh and I loved the velvet flower so much, I appreciate your dedication to the review jiejie
  • @spkindler
At least I am not bored by this show. Watchable.
  • @sleepyowlsleeps
I feel like you only get sassier and I am here for it. you're having fun! sometimes I think I'd rather just watch all reviews from you than the shows themselves (although I might have to check this one out just 'cause I really do love Yang Yang and Zhao Lusi)
  • I am having a lot of fun watching this drama, and I also totally agree with all your criticisms! Especially that bed in the cave, LOL. I also miss true wuxia that actually shows the actors' skills.
