I've never opened up about this before...

I’m glad Jamie Kern Lima has a way of drawing certain things out of me.

I don’t usually talk about it, but in this segment from my recent interview with her, I get a chance to explain why I’m so hard on myself.

The short answer is…I can’t help it!  Although as you’ll hear, things are more complicated than that.

I have such a deep-seated need to help others that I constantly evaluate, challenge, replay, and ask myself how I can do things better, sometimes in unhealthy and obsessive ways.

After all these years, I’m still trying to find the right way to balance how I think about myself and act toward others while always trying to be a good human being as often as possible.

I know many of you reflect on these things as well.

Hopefully, this will give you some perspective on how to approach similar challenges in your own lives.

It is so sad that some people think they have to achieve something before they can feel loved. I guess I grew up in a "charmed" family. We felt loved if we did good or did bad. Even when dad busted our arse for disobeying, he made sure we understood that he loved us and was punishing us to teach us a lesson and make us a better person.

I can definitely relate to that. No regerts my friend!

Hey Ed. Thank you for your transparency. I'm the exact same way to the point I won't even start something I'm passionate about... I'll be super hyped, ready to rock 'n roll then BOOM, it's a no go because of the reasons you listed. When you find a way to break that thought pattern, let me know PLEASE!!!
  • Beautiful man. I love you for who you are. Not what you have achieved. God bless you! Thank you for blessing me and others 🙏.

Ed I have an hour left of your new book on audible. I have to say man you're a huge part of my growth this year. My fiance and I listen to all your YouTube videos while we workout. We send them to each other all the time. You have helped me start to pray for my purpose and we're now wanting to start a ministry to help men who are in work release. We are going to use your videos in hopes to encourage these people. Dude much love and I pray God keeps using you brother. 🙏

I think reflection is good ! There's a healthy way to do this : PACE P : Playful, not too seriously. A : Acceptance, it's already done. C : Curious, " What's happening for me right now, why so ? " E : Empathy. I set the best intention for the task ahead of me and the cards fall will always fall how they fall. Great Video - thank you. 😊💯
  • This is an amazing lesson from two of my favorite thought leaders. This is one I will watch over and over again. Thank you Ed and Jamie for such valuable sharing!!!

Hey Ed, not sure you will see this, but you have been part of my transformation process. I grew up in a very critical and abusive home, but am striving to achieve my highest good! Man, it's not always easy looking within. But I never give up EVER!
