It's great how respectful and friendly your viewer comments are compared to other gaming channels. Many comment sections of list videos are filled with jerks who criticize choices in mean ways. Your fans are the best.
  • @justicerainz
One thing I love about this list, is that it makes me think, "ooo, if I ever get the chance, I should play this." you've added a few more games that I'm gonna have to try Mike
  • @CRedd9830
Shadow of the Colossus makes my top 15 too. I first played it (PS2 version) two months ago and I was blown away. What a masterpiece!!
  • @rayderrich
This overview was nothing short of amazing and eye opening, as I have not played at least 75% of the titles presented and so got my work cut out for me. Thanks a lot!
  • This is without a doubt one of the best gaming list videos I’ve ever seen. Watching this while drinking my coffee made my morning, thank you. 90’s kid for life
  • Mine are: 1. Xenogears - This game changed my life. 2. Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild - I love Zelda games, but felt this is the first (and only to date) that has done it right in 3D. 3. Final Fantasy 8 - I was massively addicted to this game when I was a teenager, I love the customization and crafting. 4. Victoria 2 - speaking of game addictions, I have over 2000 hours on this game. 5. Dwarf Fortress - and I've played this one for more than 24 hours in a row. 6. Witcher 3 - brilliant RPG, this is the best modern RPG, and the direction I'd love to see for Xenoblade Chronicles. 7. Super Mario Galaxy 1 and 2 - The pinnacle of platformers to this day, and the best game of the Wii generation. 8. Dragon Quest 5 - Start off as a kid, then meet your wife, then have kids and take them into battle. This game marks one of the most creative stories in RPG history. 9. Chrono Trigger - to this day, still perfection, I love the scripted battles, the simple and concise battle system that allows for complex outcomes 10. Earthbound - The game has so much charm! If you play it, do yourself a favour and print out the pamphlet/brochure guide to play along. 11. Rune Factory Frontier - On the Wii, this game was the one I played the most, probably 250 hours. IMO, still the best Story of Seasons/Stardew Valley style game to this day. 12. Terranigma - This game was a jaunt through history and science fiction, a great action adventure, and even better than Illusion of Time., 13. Fire Emblem Blazing Sword - 14. Crusader Kings 2 - I'm addicted to the multiplayer of this dynasty simulator. 15. Fire Emblem Genealogy of the Holy War - I first played this on a Fire Converter, in Japanese with a translation guide, literally the next year it came out on emulator! After I spent about 120 USD (like 220-300 today) on this one game. 16. Dragon Quest 4 - I loved the chapters and how the stories all spin together at the end, this game was the best in the series until Dragon Quest 5. 17. Dragon Quest 9 - Probably because of the hundreds of hours of multiplayer, but I loved this game. It also fixed all the problems with Dragon Quest 8 and had a better story. 18. Final Fantasy Tactics - It's FFT 19. Skies of Arcadia - This game is still beautiful to this day with its Dreamcast graphics. I love the concept of flying around, exploring floating islands in an airship. It's like a whole game taking place in Chrono Trigger's Kingdom of Zeal. 20. Faxanadu - This game has vertical worlds like Xenoblade, the first to do it, and I loved it as a kid. 21. Xenoblade Chronicles X - The prototype for Breath of the Wild, it'd be higher on my list, but it was on Wii U, and I didn't play it more. I loved this game enough that I suffered 100+ hours playing Wii U for it. 22. Final Fantasy 6 - This game was my favourite for a while when I was a kid. 23. Link to the Past - This Zelda game blew things wide open for gaming, legendary in its popularity, IMO the best Zelda game until Breath of the Wild. 24. Xenoblade Chronicles - This game is 25. Sid Meier's Civilization 2 - addicted as a kid, not much more to say. This was the best Civ game! 26. Super Mario Bros 3 - Still play this game every year, to this day. Biggest release in gaming history (maybe outside of Wii Sports) 27. FFII (FF4) - changed the way I look at RPGs, the music and production was fantastic. 28. Dragon Warrior 3 - Before FF4 changed what I thought RPGs could be, this one did it first. 29. Goldeneye 007 - I lost a lot of my teen years to this, still brought it out in University, and even after, all the way to the Wii. I know I missed a few, Mario Kart Wii and 8 Deluxe should be in there, same with SimCity 2000, and some others. Alpha Centauri, Master of Orion, Star Craft Brood War, but this is off the top of my head and I need to get back to work now :D
  • @daniellennon27
So happy to see Prince of Persia getting mentioned, what an absolutely amazing underrated masterpiece.
  • @nickyrod22
Had an awful day, opened up YT to find this and it's 100x better. Thank you guys for everything you do.
  • @Mana2Burn
I grew up in the 90’s with a love for video games and an obsession with Squaresoft. It always brings a smile to my face to listen to people describe the nostalgia, the absolute joy, and profound affect these games had on shaping the adults they become. I throughly enjoyed the take and hope to see more!
  • Never felt nostalgia this strong when i saw the mass effect part of your video. It is like remembering an old me, playing for the first time at ME, who is now dead and feeling grief as i am writing this now. Hearing Mass Effect music in the background was like earing the favorite music of my dead best friend. Im always saying this when i talk about videogame. There was my life before ME and an after.
  • @nimazsheik5152
You just can't hear 'To Far Away Times' and not nearly tear up. Even the story behind it is just awe-inspiring. Such an epic way to not only end Chrono Trigger but to also end your video!
  • @Micxhxael
I really appreciate how all of your videos are passion projects. Your #1 and #2 are also my #1 and #2, and they can switch places on any given day, but they have never wavered from those positions since 1997, and they never will.
  • @franciscobutte
Astonishing list. I played almost the 90% of these games. What a time to be alive.
  • @EdreesesPieces
The same thing happened with me with Red Dead Redemption. Despite having no interest in them before, suddenly I love Westerns after playing through that game. It just really makes you appreciate them. That is extremely powerful. It's a surprise hearing you had that same experience! I enjoyed the list and video so much.I got to relive a lot of what I love about many of these games. Thank you Mike. Probably the only games on this list I wouldn't put near my own personal top 50 is Demon Souls/Dark Souls, much the same way you dont put MMOs in your list, Soulsborne games and challenge based action combat games don't appeal to me.
  • Damn Mike. We got very similar tastes. My top 20. 1. Final Fantasy 7 2. Final Fantasy 9 3. Chrono Trigger 4. Resident Evil 4 5. Metroid Prime 6. Dark Souls 7. Skies of Arcadia 8. The Witcher 3 9. Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time 10. Bioshock 11. Bloodborne 12. God of War 2 13. Resident Evil Remake 14. Resident Evil 2 Remake 15. Ninja Gaiden (xbox) 16. Dragon Quest 8 17. Uncharted 2 18. Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild 19. Red Dead Redemption 2 20. Dark Souls 3 Literally counting down the hours for Elden Ring. And am hoping it cracks top 10.
  • when you talked about chrono trigger, i litteraly started to cry because im also feeling a lot of pressure from my family to give up on my dreams to be a storyteller and i really love videogames, last month i tried to buy a SNES just to play chrono trigger, but i got scamed lol. i will play it on an emulator, thank you for the amazing video and for the final message, it really made my day! +1 sub
  • @scottalot05
As an English major, I appreciate how you put time into writing a script that makes your discussion of each game feel unique and meaningful. Also, freak. There are too many good games. And too many I haven’t played yet.
  • @OmegaCoyote
Amazing list. You have added so many games to my bucket list. Hearing this made me remember Legends of Legaia and Grandia 2 which are 2 old games that I love and left an impact on the type of person I am today.
