Gents, interesting discussion on Stammer, loyalty and insulting offers. As a lifelong Wings fan, we had to endure the decade-long effects of loyalty contracts. I would have much preferred Kenny moving on from 2-3 of those ultimately bad contracts to lessen the degree of the rebuild. Yes, it would have been disloyal to a couple guys that won you cups but it would have been more loyal to the fanbase that pays the bills. I say this as a 40+ year season ticket holder. Regarding Stammer, the biggest problem is not that Brisbois moved on from Stammer, but the way that he did it. That contract offer was indeed insulting to a future HOF-er.
  • If my memory serves right, I believe Frank Seravelli now has to eat a stick of butter on camera. hey SPORTSNET you need to make sure he follows through on this!
  • Hakanpaa was my favorite pick up he played 19 minutes a game #1 penalty killer was there #4 before he got hurt he is the best value contract signed today he is big and reliable love him

Isn't Tampa the team that bought out Lecavalier (not to mention having taken the "C" away from him when he was younger in the first place)? That pissed Marty St. Louis so much that he asked to be traded? This team is hard on its captains.

wow 2 elliotte friedmans what a scoop!
  • @Nanook6
Happy Canada Day to your producer and video editor eh? At least Bourney kinda showed up 😂

I’m with Sammy and Kyper on this stamkos stuff. But a fine and valid point by JB as well. The whole thing is just sour. Brisebois’ time has to be up VERY soon. Especially when all of this backfires. And also…. The fans have every right to be pissed at this.
  • 4 million for 8 years would be same amount he got in Nashville
  • @willd7757
Bet 365 pay the maple leaf team taxes
  • ❤like always guys said like it is , speak the reality!!

Loyalty is a two way street, and JB is right a lot of these superstars hold their teams hostage, see Matthews and his "I love Leafs but I need to be the leagues highest paid!" Despite never delivering when it matters most. 10 Rockets will never equal 1 Stanley?

Leafs going back to the bargain bin for their starting goalie. Better hope Woll can stay healthy for the season.
  • @Mattoilers97
Funny no one that canucks traded for at the deadline wanted to to stay there bahahahaha
  • I'm not even a Tampa fan and I'm mad that Tampa dumped their captain, but as a business person... I get it.
  • With 32 teams and prolonged careers these days, nobody should expect to stay with one team for their whole career. What was embarrassing was the offer from Tampa. They should have just told him they were moving on in the first place. The problem was that Tampa wanted it both ways. They would have re-signed Stammer if they couldn't get Guentzel or an equivalent. That being said, certain players have done similar things to their own team. It's a business, stop thinking with your heart :)
  • Tampa made one of the biggest mistakes ever in letting Stamkos go. They're going to feel really bad once Stamkos lifts a Cup in Nashville.
  • Love Stammer. But this roster needs a reset. Tough decision to move on from him but it was the right move. Preds overpaid. Now the argument begins as wether the Guentzel signing was the right move.
  • You talk about stammer this year with Tampa and the money what about Johnny T next year, talking about taking team friendly number. What’s that going to be?
