The Malacca Strait is a narrow strip of water in South East Asia. It is one of the most important shipping routes in the world. But it's also a source of tension in the region, and could be a weak spot for China.

Sky's Nicole Johnston explains.

Whoever designed this map surely hates their job.
  • @mrbaywatch21
I genuinely thought the blue was water and the white was land

who would block the Malacca strait? Only Indonesia & Malaysia have that authority Indonesia and Malaysia are more than capable of defending themselves.

However designed that map HATES ALL of us viewers!!!! The most basic law of maps is to make WATER BLUE!!!

I am Malaysian and I know that we and our neighbour Indonesia will not agree to any hegemonic power to block the strait. Everyone will enjoy the freedom to traverse the strait, including China.

So funny that the talking head thinks The Malacca Dilemma is a boogeyman at a time when the US, France, UK etc are struggling and wasting billions to even deter poor Houthi pirates from harassing boats in the red sea xD What a complete tool

this malacca straits isn't only use by china. this strait is key route for entire world. this straits is controlled by Indonesia, Malaysia, and Singapore. all 3 have very good relation to China. can't say the same to India, Europe, US, Japan (countries that support Israel).
  • @kjmok
On what grounds and authority does the US have to "close" the straits of Malacca? What an ill-informed video this is.

The hardest map that I haver ever looked at 😅😅😂😂😂😂
  • @The_WarriorsWay
it's an over exaggerated issue, China will get its way from Indonesia and its not much a distance from Malacca, also why Malayasia and Indonesia will ever allow someone to block this strait

It is not a big deal as Sky News makes it. There are alternative waterways. In the current Red Sea crisis, shipping companies redirect to Cape of Good Hope, it costs higher shipping costs, but not a dooming situation.
  • @idielmar
    No freedom of navigation there????
  • China can get all of it oil from Russia😂, hype of everything to make news

Its funny how the West abandon any rational thinking while evaluating Indo-Sino relations ...superficial animosity suits both the countries in the current global geo-political context. But there is zero chance of either country crossing the redlines which could jeopardise long term peace and stability between them.

Malacca strait is not really the Achilles' heel of China, Indonesian water is. That's why they poured a lot of money into our economy. South Korea, Japan, Singapore, and Indonesia account for 80% of China investment in the region.

I was so lost. I'm thinking wait are those red dashes for an inter-trade truck or railroad route? Then I realized in Australia water is white, and the land is blue.
