What They Never Told You About The Death of David Ruffin.
Ruffin himself personally encouraged Edwards to take his place, Ruffin began turning up unannounced at Temptations concerts during Edwards' first few dates with the group. When the group started to perform a Ruffin-era song such as "My Girl" or "Ain't Too Proud to Beg", Ruffin would suddenly walk on to the stage, take the microphone from Edwards' hands, and steal the show, embarrassing the group but entertaining the fans. While initially considering a second chance for Ruffin due to his pleas and the audience's admiration, the Temptations ultimately decided to retain Edwards when Ruffin arrived late for his scheduled return show in Gaithersburg, Maryland.

I met David Ruffin about a year before he passed. It was 1990 in Philly and I was 19. I was somewhat familiar with the Temptations at the time but I wasn’t aware of how big they were. He was at a family friend’s house that my mom and I had visited. He came downstairs and he was so sweet. My mom’s friend had a piano and I sat at the piano with him as he played and sang My Girl to me. I’ll never forget that day. It was such a precious moment.

Ruffin is my cousin. He had a beautiful voice. He wasn't perfect, but he was extremely talented. May God grant him to rest in Eternity 😢🕊 🕊
  • David Ruffins voice was insane, as with so many other voices of that time, we will never have voices or songs like that ever again. Talent is no longer needed in the music industry of today.

David Ruffin was watching his funeral like “Y’all can’t sing my song, at my funeral WITH! OUT! ME!” But to sing that powerful as that man, you had to have went through some painful moments in life 😢 I don’t judge, because we all have a story.

The only brother who could slide a first tenor into a second tenor and in between do acrobats with a 2 scale falsetto with ease. One of the greatest vocalists ever.

Ruffin was a great artist, but his treatment of Terrell cannot be forgotten either.

A true vocal genius, may he rest-in-peace. (From a UK Motown lover)

One of my favorite singers. His voice and music catalog is up there with the best of them. Wish that his legacy wasn’t filled with so much negativity. Long Live David Ruffin👑

i seen an interview of nedra ruffin sadly before she passed away, she spoke about how she was the last person to talk to her father and she and eddie kendricks said david was sober. she believes david was set up by his younger gf because he had a money belt on him(which was missing when david got to the hospital) and she believes that someone gave him a hot shot to end his life(david also had defensive wounds). two weeks before his passing, farrakhan was supposed to meet with david to "help him get out of something". it's even more scarier to me that he was taken away from us on the first of the month. also sad that he and eddie kendricks said they would tell their own stories of the shady things that happened to them in the industry but unfortunately never got a chance to.💔i wish someone would make an ACCURATE film about the tempts! paul, david, and dennis all had suspicious passings may they get justice and rip and nedra🕊 Interview link> https://youtu.be/rgDVR1sFckM

a gifted but deeply troubled man, VERY similar to Marvin Gaye.

All personal craziness aside, one of the greatest singers, if not the greatest that Motown ever produced. It feels miraculous that both Smokey and MOTOWN founder Berry Gordy are STILL ALIVE when most of it's artists are long gone

Folks, stick to why we love Ruff? The music and legacy tied to the Temps. His personal habit like many of ours not why we adore him.
