This video shows the highlights from the Taffy making process. They do things the old school way using machines from nearly 100 years ago. If you're ever in the area it's interesting to see and fun to watch.

This place had 8 feet of water in it during Hurricane Ike in 2008. Thankfully, they saved these old machines by moving them upstairs before the storm. Also, you can't beat this place's ice cream. It's specially made there using recipes from a local ice cream company that was around almost 100 years ago. The family that owns this shop bought the ice cream company when it went bankrupt and still makes ice cream with those recipes. The cinnamon ice cream malt is to die for. It's also like $8.

His accuracy and speed when tossing out the samples was amazing.
  • Unbelievable at how well these machines work for being so old, It just proves that if you take care of things they can and will last a lifetime, Very good demonstration, this guy knows his stuff, thanks for the demonstration it was very good.
  • Caught me off guard when he started talkin, felt like I was gonna be in trouble for not paying attention lol
  • As a Baking and Pastry student, watching people make works of candy gives me pleasure.
  • No place on earth like La King's! Watching this brought back LOADS of childhood memories. Practically lived at the Strand back in the day. Thank you for sharing! ❤
  • When my sister was little she forgot it was called, Salt Water Taffy. She loudly asked my mom for some Seaweed Fudge. Lol
  • I remember seeing a taffy machine like that when I was a kid at the beach boardwalk in NJ. There was no big show, just a machine in the window that you could watch and then go in and buy some salt water taffy. We also had taffy pulls at home on a much smaller scale of course! Delicious fresh and still slightly warm.
  • I can see the old man in the back smiling as the man threw the candy. They must have done the same back in his day when he was a kid. Good stuff. :)
  • Wow! That was really interesting. I have seen the hand pulled version made before, but never seen it made by the old machines. Kudos on keeping those machines in good working order.

It’s so cool how they use the same equipment that they used 80-100 years ago
  • Love La Kings!! Love how he taffy is thrown at you after it’s made!! Best soda shop on the strand!! Love Galveston, Love my Texas ❤️❤️
  • You can really see the joy on his face when he's working with the taffy...lol
  • Extremely prestigious position to be working in. The level of respect one receives for this type of work is beyond comprehension.
  • When the gentleman started packaging the taffy, I hear in my mind the music from "I'm your Venus" and heard, I'm your Taffy, I'm your fire, I'm your desire!" Totally amazing! Thanks!
  • Fascinating! Nope, never knew but now we do! Next time I have a chance for salt water taffy I will for certain appreciate the hands that made it and enjoy it even more.
