So you can sit in the stands and race a car on the track. Isn't racing boring enough already ?

Man I love this Guy Martin dude. He’s such a cool and hilarious character, and brilliant clearly

Also, this video is awesome because it’s exactly what I was wondering about. I was playing the newest Forza game and I wondered “if the AI was going as fast as possible could it beat me in a perfectly even car? What about the real world?” This answers the question; it’s close but not quite there yet. As much as humans like to give ourselves a hard time, we are incredibly proficient at driving cars and driving them in all sorts of environments quickly. We can see the road, make thousands of tiny little judgements about the texture and variation of the surface while doing it, and adjust so quickly that even today’s most advanced computers can’t beat us at it

I was just thinking about AI taking over sports this past weekend. I couldn't imagine AI replacing us in sports, Basketball, Soccer, Baseball. But this could happen many many many years after our lifetime.

Driving is super easy in principle - just keep plenty of room in front, AI will understand it
  • Can't understand why would you want to replace the human experience of racing a car with an AI.
  • @CHMichael
There will be places for a long time that require a human driver. There are newly planed towns already that a tesla can navigate with ease.
  • @AZ-74
AI racing will occupy the space between horse racing and real motorsports. the only true spectacle will be much more dangerous race tracks that will use the lack of human drivers to increase the risks (like crisscrossing tracks and bottlenecks)
  • @PrinceAlhorian
AI will kill racing. If AI can do a perfect racing line, it will perform that line flawlessly, over and over and over again. If all cars are built to the strict rules of F1 or A1, that means that the gap between the cars will be smaller as well, if the cars are designed by AI as well (which they will most likely be) you will have a bunch of drones going round a track at exactly the same speed in a perfect string of pearls. Overtakes will be precious little, there will be no dueling like drivers do today, it will be an exercise in futility.

Think of the design possibilities of the cars when you are not engineering around space and factor of safety for humans. These things will SCREAM around the track.
  • @Zen_Power
Once ai controlled f1 cars outperform humans, which they will, you either have seperate leagues ai only and human only. But humans won’t be able to compete with ai eventually.
  • It's all about the tech in F1 cars not the drivers so why not
  • @taurus7228
Hi. Probably seeing a car with no accelerator or brake pedals and no steering wheel! All these can be made to be controlled by electronics. Easier for the computer. It is only us humans should accept that..
  • Well I hope they don't replace real people. It'd be pointless to watch it then cause people cheer for the guy driving, they don't cheer for his sponsor stickers on the car lol
