Sometimes, we must hit pause on trivial things and focus on matters of the heart. This Sunday, July 2nd, would have marked the 18th birthday of a special young soul, Carson Crimeni.

Unfortunately, he was taken from us prematurely on August 7, 2019. A heartbreaking incident, all the more poignant as it took place just 30 minutes from our home. We've created this music video in Carson's honor, a tribute to him and his family, touched as we are by his story.
It's hard to express this without a heavy heart, but if we can save or even transform a single life by using our platform for good, we firmly believe that it's worth it.

Here's the unvarnished truth.

Carson, yearning for friends and acceptance, was taken in by a group of older teens. He unwittingly became their punching bag, derided as "Crackhead Carson". On the fateful day of August 7th, these kids invited him to a local skate park to try Ecstasy. Eager to fit in, Carson complied. What happened next was no less than a disaster - not one, but over 10 pills were forced into Carson's hand. Not for fun or out of friendship, but for a sadistic Snapchat spectacle. Whether these teens knew the consequences of their actions, we can't say. But the outcome was devastating; Carson began to overdose. Instead of seeking help, they fled the scene, leaving Carson in his darkest hour.

Carson's story is one of the most heart-wrenching we've ever encountered. It's a cry for justice for Carson, a good-hearted hockey player who just sought friendship and acceptance. Through this music video, we aim to awaken everyone to the horrific consequences of bullying. It's a plea to you all - if you witness such behavior, step up, intervene, and speak out before it's too late.

This video is for Carson. Your spirit lives on. We love you, brother.

Here I am, ugly crying. To all those who have stood up for me, defended me, validated me, stood for me, and simply been there for me... thank you. People like you saved my life.

From someone who was bullied ever since they were a kid up until they hit their late teens, this video means a lot to me. May Carson rest easy. No one deserves what happened to him. ♡

Thank you so much for using your platform for such heartfelt and important messages like this one. The song is beautiful, and I know this video is going to be an even more touching tribute. I hope you're resting easy, Carson, and happy birthday. ❤
  • This is why you guys are my favorite band. You're so caring, and you guys talk about topics that sometimes other people are too scared to outright say without sugar coating. I'm proud to be a RA fan!

  • @mathewkariga8859

I havent forgotten about Carson. I looked him up a few years after his death hoping to hear that his family has justice and found this amazing tribute that I'm sure he would have loved. I knew a lot of kids like Carson growing up, and hell, maybe I was even one of them, who just wanted to fit in even if it meant doing things just to relate to other people and belong only to be treated poorly and bullied. Thank you for helping his story reach so many people.

"he wanted to fit in, he wanted somewhere to belong" I've been a fan of RA since I was in sixth grade, and as a fifteen year old with ADHD, and as a person who has been struggling with their mental health, I just want to thank you. I can positively say that I am a fan of alot of songs, especially by RA, but hearing this song specifically, it just stuck a cord in me, this is one of the only songs that had me genuinely sobbing, although this song wasn't written for me, I feel like I've finally found a song that represents me, thank you

First of all, this was the first time I heard of Carson's story, and I must tell you it shocked me. As a person that has suffered bullying since the first grade for being somehow "different" and stubborn, I think this events are relatable ( I just hope nothing this tragic ever happens to me though...). With this said I understand the pain and the urge to fit in cuz too dam well, for two different reasons. First of all: I was the nerd. I was and I will always be the nerd. People judge me because I like and I seek knowledge. In my point of view I think it's a way to understand the planet we live in and to achieve all my dreams. Because if I can't make friends, at least I'll make something great. I am also pretty stubborn and I have anger issues, so I guess that doesn't help either. Second of all: I have a mental disorder, autism. And you may know there are a lot of side effects to it, but the worst one is being socially awkard and isolating myself from others. And you may think that would keep me far away from bullies, but it was quite the opposite actually. All the big guys and the "old" ones were always making fun of me for being smart and small. For them it was like the perfect duo for bullying. The only one that was always there for me was Tomás, my brother from another mother. I thank him everyday for always having my back. To this day I'm still a victim of bullying and stupid people' jokes, but I gotta say: there are some really worthy kids, teens and even teachers/adults out there, look for them! They will help you, at least they helped me :) The little things in life make my journey less hard every day, and Rare Americans is one of them, so thank you so much, and I hope Carson's having a killer day in heaven.

  • @_Bench.
R.i.p Carson… you will forever remain in our hearts.❤
  • @jeaniewilson2284
I still think of Carson a lot. Seeing his family breaking down on the news was heart breaking. No one should have to bury their child. I hope your music brings them some comfort. Thank you for sharing his story.
  • @TheAdvertisement
I love the detail that, as the cycle of kids learning to step in and stop bullying begins, Carson finishes off the video by returning the kindness that was given to him.
  • @Slippy25113
As somebody who has been bullied and pressured into doing stuff I didn’t want to, I feel how much pressure that was put on Carson. Awareness should be spread about topics like these so no kids who feel lost and want to fit in, don’t do things they are pressured into.
