Rust has eaten through my basment door. Is all hope lost or can I fix it with Bondo's Metal Reinforced formula?

Thank you. My husband has passed away, he was a Renaissance man along with being a handyman. Now I am left to do these honey do projects. Please take care of yourselves πŸŒΉπŸ’―

Thanks for this posting this DIY video! I've been researching for a solution to repair & restore rusted out metal lawn chair legs, and this seems to be the best shot at getting a few more years use out of them. I loved your thorough step-by-step instructions - very helpful for a "never done-it" beginner. 😎 Also loved watching the sped-up section of painting the doors. It was almost therapeutic to watch and probably made anyone who has tackled painting wish all paint jobs could be so easy and quick! Lol! 😁🀣

Wonderful video! For the most part we don't have basements in California, where I live, but this could translate to all kinds of other repair. Nice trick using the styro filler for a back support!

Awesome video! I was looking for a way to patch the corner of a metal door that has rusted through. I was going down the rabbit hole of metalworking and started to get intimidated and was even considering just buying a new door. After seeing this video, I realized your method in this video is the perfect solution for me! Thanks for talking us through your process and explaining it so well. Your video gives me the confidence to try to fix it myself!

I finally found the video that I was looking for. Thank you so much! Loved the outcome because I'm getting ready to fix a baker's rack that has a bunch of rust and also holes. This metal bondo is perfect for this! This video was excellent because it helps beginners like myself save some cute wrought iron baker's rack and planters.
  • This video was very helpful. I have a metal deer statue (yard art) in my yard. One of the antlers was already broken off when I bought it (at a great discount.) I've been wondering how to fill the gap and now I know! Thanks for the details you included in your descriptions. You've got a very positive attitude. Keep up the good work!

Great video. Our metal roof on our pergola is beginning to rust in a few places. I’ve never used Bondo before, but I picked up the professional high bond to stop the rusting and your video gave me the confidence to try it. This can came with a cream hardener instead of the liquid but I think I can handle it. Thanks

I'm curious about using the foam filler as a backing. I've seen this approach used in auto body repair with poor results. It seems as though rust on panels is a result of moisture trapped on the inside surfaces, where it sits for long periods and the foam will just be more likely to hold and trap this moisture causing more and quicker rust formation. It would make more sense to attempt to address the moisture coming from the back or sides and allow trapped moisture to instead drain away. I would use a sheet metal patch and any bondo product once the moisture issue was addressed.
  • Just fixed my rusty, leaky mailbox with Bondo, thank you so much for the how-to!

YAAAAY! Thanks dude! You helped me decide on a way to tackle a bunch of little rust holes around my bulkhead door ;) Cheers!

Looks like it did the job. Thanks for the video πŸ‘

Nice job, great vid, thanks. Wish you had shown how you you handled the inside of the door... especially dealing with the spray foam thru that open hole. Bondo interior side too? I could see you painted interior side but not how it was done.
  • Had some vertical posts on my front porch, code States 4x4s are in code however, I had 6x6s and some of the wood rotted, ground out all the wood that was rotten, still had more than a 4x4 to comply with code, Body filler doesn't work good on wood on houses it will fall off eventually, use Corvette patch, Kitty hair ,fiberglass strand with polyester resin, it will last forever and the weather won't bother it.

  • I patched my boss plow with this stuff last year and it held up well...honestly the only reason I think it failed in spots is it was too late in the year and it couldn't get the proper temp for the chemical reaction to take place as it was supposed to
