Zoom is losing relevancy after the pandemic. Its stock price crashed, its business stopped growing and its global user base is shrinking.

Now Zoom is trying to copy Microsoft teams, Hubspot, Salesforce and Google Workspace. Let's see how that goes.

Zoom is a video conferencing and online meeting platform that allows users to connect and collaborate remotely. It allows users to share their screens, use virtual backgrounds, and join meetings from their computer, phone, or tablet. Zoom is commonly used for online classes, business meetings, and video calls with friends and family.

The CEO of Zoom is Eric S. Yuan. He founded the company in 2011 and has served as its CEO since then. Prior to Zoom, Yuan was a Vice President of Engineering at Cisco Systems, where he led the development of the WebEx product line.

Zoom went public on April 18, 2019. The company's initial public offering (IPO) was successful, and the stock price has risen significantly since then. In its first day of trading, Zoom's stock price rose by over 80% and it has continued to grow since then. But then it started crashing…
Zoom is a videoconferencing and online meeting platform that can be used for a wide range of purposes.

Some common uses for Zoom include:

Business meetings: Zoom is often used by businesses for meetings with employees, clients, and partners. It allows people to connect and collaborate remotely.

Online classes: Zoom is widely used by educational institutions for online classes and lectures. It allows students and teachers to interact in real-time, even when they are not in the same location.

Video calls: Zoom can be used for one-on-one or group video calls with friends and family. It is a convenient way to stay in touch with loved ones, especially during times when in-person visits are not possible.

Webinars: Zoom is also used for webinars, which are online presentations or workshops that are typically attended by a large number of people. It allows presenters to share their screens and interact with attendees in real-time.

Virtual events: Zoom is often used for virtual events, such as conferences, concerts, and festivals. It allows people to participate in events from the comfort of their own h

  • I’m a work from home freelance software engineer. One big platform that does use Zoom is Upwork (another company you maybe can do a vid on!). Aside from that, in addition to Zoom I do see a strong secondary demand to use Microsoft Teams or Google Meet for meetings and I don’t see much difference in quality between them, they both basically suck

One of my clients use WebEx and I have to say it’s absolutely appalling.

I use Meet also mostly, but in corporate Teams is quickly becoming/staying the standard. All these apps are driven by integrated solutions (B2B), that's why Salesforce acquired Slack. Messaging, documents, storage, calender etc etc in a secured environment, so MS, Google and Salesforce. Zoom, Meet, WhatsApp for the B2C/B2SME market (basically also because they have or are free tier products). Good stuff again! Thanks.
  • We used to use Z00M until they were hit by the first security-issue. Some governmental divisions forbid using or even joining Z00M. We had to switch to Teams. Z00M was quite good, also the video-quality, bandwidth usage, lesser dropouts (especially when one is using wifi) and Teams has more issues. But Teams also has a ton of applications, easier to integrate with our backends etc. It does take way more time to get features (and fixes) for Teams. Z00M was always quite good in resolving issues and adding features fast.

I think you’re missing the main reason why Zzom is declining in Europe, which is the same reason Teams is the largest: regulatory reasons. Many many large users of video conferencing in Europe are either themselves or doing business with public and governmental organisations. Those will always say “no” to Zoom. You can sometimes have them agree on using Google but for the most part it’s Teams. And then some will require a completely disconnected solution in which case they generally use Skype. This is for internal as well as external use. This public use case will be a large chunk of the larger user base of video conferencing as (as I said) it also pushes anyone doing business or interacting with these public entities also to using non-Zoom solutions.
  • As you said, both G&M have other well-established productivity suites (g-suite and O365). Unless enterprises have a specific reason to abandon the other two, I'd anticipate enterprises to trim redundant tools and take advantage of "bundled discounts". especially with the economic headwinds coming up.

Zoom allows all participants to annotate (mark-up documents or designs). In Teams only the presenter can do this. This is a big disadvantage for Teams; it is odd that this feature does not exist in Teams. Once Teams has this annotate function then Zoom is dead.

Zoom has terrible security issues, and it's so much harder to keep everything in order on Zoom. Teams has some UI and log-in problems, but at least it isn't a chaotic mess 95% of the time.

Maybe it’s just me, but I went from an organization that used teams and zoom to an organization that uses google work space/Google meet and it’s so much easier to use . I was shocked to see they were # 3 out of the 4 you mentioned .

I was in college during the pandemic, all classes were moved to online. Zoom classes, none of the teacher's knew how to use it, most of the class was spent figuring it out. It kept crashing, people didn't shut their mics off when asked to 100 times. When it was a good day and everything was running smooth... no one would show up for class, I found it a really useless tool.

Our small enterprise has better luck with zoom than google meet as far as staying connected and quality so we choose Zoom as first choice BUT lately there has been some glitching where it says "waiting for organizer to login to begin meeting" when I am the organizer. So I have to logout and use a specific sequence that avoids joining the meeting via google calendar, instead having to go back to zoom icon. So is Google calendar making it more difficult to use Zoom? as a competitive move? So in my opinion it has over-reached based on your video.
  • They are not really in bad shape; they are actually back to "normal" . The space zooms originally came out of was space where cisco web meeting cisco. polycom and cisco were really their original competitors. The pandemic just shot over the moon frankly much faster than they expected. for the corporate world was that zoom much easier to set up and manage than all the rest of the other video conference solutions. Microsoft teams were there by default it was often available with office 365 . However generally people found teams hard to use, they have improved recently but that was team's weakness the UI.
  • @joseph7858
we‘ve used zoom shortly during the pandemic, but then switched to google workspace for2/3rds of the price including all the apps back then you mentioned now…
  • @mdesm2005
i'm up-scaling a sticky pitch deck (am I doing this right?)
