At this point, we need a season dedicated to fixing the glitches and hackers.

Instead of adding “new ways to play”, I’d like to see the ways we currently have fixed, so they’re in a functional state. I’ve never seen hit registration be SUCH an issue in a game for as long as it has in this game, just to name a single massive issue (it’ll likely never be fixed, tbh). Then there’s the server issues, game crashes, beard errors, slideshow frames from more than 6 pieces of loot in the water, etc. all of which is made worse by trying to enjoy some PvP. This is a phenomenal game marred by a tragic amount gameplay bugs. Combine that with a general lack of things to do anyway and here we are. Will it survive, indeed.

My two cents: Sea of Thieves is in the middle of a unique sort of identity crisis. On the one hand, it wants to be more casual, letting issues like blackscreening, hitreg, and cheaters go unchecked while introducing low-impact things like instanced Tall Tales. On the other hand, the game locks all of its most recent biggest cosmetics behind much more hardcore elements, such as high-contention world events (FoF) and Hourglass. This is a line Sea of Thieves has always walked, but the problems come about when the failings of one overlap into the boundary of the other - hourglass is very problematic now because of the issues that aren't taken that seriously in a casual game, while casual players these days are getting rocked by a combination of bored die-hard pvp players and cheaters. In good news, there is hope. We're now five years later and the core of the game is still incredibly unique and - when things are ticking along how they should - fun as hell. The fact that the game is still doing quite well despite the very valid issues Phuzzy raises here should be a sign that we're not on a sinking ship, but we need rare to carry a few buckets and patch a couple of holes while the playerbase keeps the sails in the wind.

For my wife and I, season 8 and 9 have been great! As in, we've had a nice long relaxing break from the seas, lol. We used to love the game, but so many issues slowly took away that love of playing and replaced it with a bit of indifference and even a little bit of dread when firing up the game. Cheating, bugs, etc were bad for pretty much everyone we played with and once you have crew members saying I'd like to play with you guys, but on any other game, not SoT that quickly drives it home that the game is losing it's hold on long time players. I'm ready to give the seas a try, but Rare is on the shortest of leashes as my time is valuable and if the game's no longer really enjoyable then I can simply go for a mountain bike ride instead and enjoy the outdoors.
  • Rare can say whatever they want, but with their long list of broken promises and lack of updating the actual game I can't trust ANYTHING that they say now. I'll only believe it when it is added to the game at this point.

Honestly, if they rework the plunder pass to be infinite or just... Not attached to the Season, me and my friends would play a lot and that would be enough. I hate playing a game where I don't see progress tbh

I keep talking with friends about how cool it would be if they used the hourglass factions to make Spanish forts you attack claimable. Have the ghosts only attack ships that are neutral or opposing and same faction ships can buy supplies from a ghost shipwright. Would give forts new life and mix up the pvpve. Can even show on the map or a beacon if a claimed one is being attacked

I think the #1 issue is that gold doesn't matter much, it hasn't mattered for me in the 1st month of playing, not everyone is a achievement hunter or completionist; I don't need all the skins. If gold doesn't matter much then the main concept of the game doesn't matter much and that is a huge issue, then were just stuck trying to find ways to still enjoy the game and that will get old fast.

I stopped playing this game with SO much potential a year and a half ago. I'm glad to see you making this video addressing their shortcomings. With new pirate games potentially coming along, I hope they get their head out of their asses and actually refresh their game. It's time for a refresh and rethink the strategy to entice players to come back and/or keep playing.
  • @heymelon
Yeah I definitely burned myself out a bit on SoT during S9. Took a "break" during the Hoarders Hunt thing which has been extended until there is something worth coming back to. I mean I will definitely come back and do the tall tale either way and I'm sure that's great. I just hope there will be enough new things afterwards to keep the sandbox loop interesting, and maybe get updates to that a little more often again.. I also want cool things to grind for, not things to buy. That's all.
  • @francishek773
I just want them to add some kind of private island where you can store items, customize and chill with the crew : |
  • @seraphim2015
BRUH like i dont have that many rare things BUT this year every single rare thing that i owned go brought back and it feels awful all the things i grainded for and did my best to get just returning and being given away making all the hours i spent in the game feel like nothings as almost anyone can have those things now with 0 effort or dedication on their side, really makes me wonder if its worth carying about any events in the game if i can just wait a bit and get the rewards for just existing

Me and my friends sort of had a break from Sea of Thieves. We played throughout season 8 and 9 but were getting into other games. We started playing again when Chest of Fortune was released and had a lot of fun with it, but now our playtime has decreased again. I really hope Rare gets this update right so more people like me can return to the seas where so much fun is to be discovered!

Feels like this game's going the way of tourney fighters back in the day. A bunch of vets entrench themselves and pull up the ladder behind them and then they're surprised when the game's dying out because nobody's interested in playing when PvP is mandatory and feels like a gap you're never going to close if you weren't already there from the start. The game's PvE feels like a bait and switch. Those who don't want to PvE don't have to but those who don't want to PvP have to do it anyway. So only one side is having to make any compromises while the other just gets everything they want, no strings. It won't end well if not rebalanced.

My wishes are: Recruit npcs to your ship that can stay on board while plundering islands to make it feel more like a real pirate crew Own your own island that only you and your crew can visit. Phase it somehow. Randomly generated map each week that everyone share. Either that or have a pool of like 10 different maps that they randomly cycle between to add some freshness to the world. Crazier weather and more natural disasters. I wish it would be a real challenge to sail the seas when there’s a massive storm instead of players being the only thing I worry about.

Great video Phuzzy. especially the take on old cosmetics coming back and Rare breaking promises.
  • @ConstructiveGamer
I love your channel phuzzy, i hope to see you diversify your channel, as sea of thieves is definately at a time of needed change, i've been saying since season 6 that they need to scrap the seasons idea, and just bring in bi monthly updates and bug fixes so that they can work on fixing the game rather than giving us long waits for undesirable content, which misses out on ALL the fixes we would like to see in that time that we wait for a season to come out and finish within a day or 2 of stacking... i just wish sea of thieves would start doing better daily challenges that involved getting yourself involved with other ships...
  • @CSKlostlee
Honestly, just an anti-hack update would be worth a whole season for me
  • @kurtttttttt
I love SoT and I hope it stays around a long time!
