In 1945 Japan knew it was facing defeat. Only a few of their defensive ring of island bases remained. The mainland had been cut off from vital supplies of food, fuel and materials. This however wouldn't stop them fighting to the last man.

  • WHAT'S THE BLOODY POINT OF SHOWING A VIDEO WHEN YOU COVER UP ALL THE PICTURES???
  • So glad I have this on DVD. They ant no blurry junk. The bodies should ALWAYS BE SHOWN lest we forget the horror of war.

My great grandfather took part in the Pacific Theatre and helped liberate the island of Guam in WW2. He also helped arm US bombers before they went out on raids. This was such a great documentary!
  • Thanks YouTube for utterly ruining the Documentary that so many have learned from in their younger years. Congrats YouTube on turning the Documentary category into nothing more than an hour long video where 30 min is nothing more than a blurred screen, oh the horror of being exposed to actual reality.
  • Watching this series as an adult compared to when I was a kid watching it really hits differently. The absolute brutality of this war was insane and hopefully never occurs again
  • Daddy passed away march 8. 2018 at 91. He was 18 on Okinawa. Miss him daily. Henry Eugene Delaney. My hero. Annette
  • My island hopper Army grandfather hated the Japanese until the day he died. These documentaries help me understand why.

I was on Okinawa. 3rd Marine Division camp Hansen. I came back in 78. I hope to return someday for a few days. It has some beautiful beaches and good people. Thanks for sharing.

The war in the Pacific was very bloody and in my opinion the worst theater too have to fight in. I have a lot of respect for the American soldiers who fought against Japan then. Japan is a great country and its people are amazing and I’m happy we are no longer enemies. I didn’t have a family member I know of that fought in the pacific but I did have 2 of my Great Uncle’s help fight against the Nazis in Europe and my grandfather said they never would talk about it cause they saw the concentration camps and was deeply disturbed by it
  • My daddy was a seabee on Okinawa . He helped repair 2 airstrips. He was scheduled for the first wave to invade Japan. One glad daughter for the atomic bombs. He most likely wouldnt have come home. My brother and i wouldnt have been born. Neither would his 3 granddaughters or 5 great grandchildren. Annette

My grandfather was a naval engineer. He was on Guadalcanal, Iwo Jima, and Okinawa. He was non combat, but still never spoke about the war. I heard rumors about the things he saw as the US was cleaning up bodies, and he was set to work building bridges. He was also in Korea. He was willing to talk about Korea, but not WWII. It feels very strange to watch this while I'm on vacation in Tokyo.
  • It was an informative and wonderful historical coverage documentary about the final days of WW2 for Japan
  • Thank God we have YouTube that feels it is necessary to blur out parts of history.
