The Texas coast has a bad reputation. But I saw some good in Galveston!

I spent two days in Galveston, checking out the neighborhoods and downtown region to see what life is like here. I was impressed!

I've never tired of Galveston. I've been going since I was a little girl. I'll always remember "Old" Galveston, way before all the tourism. The Ferry; The Strand and the Seawall, are so memorable, for me. Love!Love Galveston

The downtown is preserved unlike other Texas cities. Reminds me of New Orleans a little bit especially since they have the biggest Mardi Gras in Texas.

FYI, the water in Galveston for the most part is actually very clean from a microbe standpart. It is however most of the time full of silt from the Brazos and even the Missisippi rivers. SOmetimes though beleive it or not it can be almost gin clear.

I visited Galveston back in the 70s. I was amazed at thee amount of beach front junk yards that there were.

I just applied for Texas A&M at Galveston, and I was bumming you didn't have a Galveston video out yet. Hours later, you uploaded this. Amazing timing!

I absolutely love Galveston. Good segment on the birds, I had no idea Hitchcock wrote that there. Some amazing mob history there, the las vegas before las vegas. Free state

I love this series! It feels like I'm watching a old documentary from my School days. The music, themes, and narration. Knowledge is power, that's what you fill us with. Tyty ❤

back in the 80's my sister in law lived in Friendswood south of Houston, but we didn't have a lot of time but we did go see the gulf, for us living in illinois Texas was a real adventure. Nice to see the downtown and the hoods, and i love the intro and mappy with the pirate LOL.

Welcome to Galveston Nick. I hope you enjoyed your trip to Galveston. I am living and working in Galveston since November 2021.Indeed, there are not many job opportunities over here. The main one is UTMB. If you are full time employee in UTMB, then you are going to do well. The rent is not expensive as well. I am paying 1200$ for one bedroom apartment 800 sqft (fully furnished), and it is located in the vicinity of the UTMB campus. Galveston is a beautiful city and very clean I have to admit. Compare to other cities in Texas, Galveston is looking good and it is very safe as well. We do have rains over here in Galveston from time to time, and we might have hurricanes as well, although it was very quiet in the past several years. Since i am from south of Florida, I love hot weather that we have over here in Galveston.

LOVED seeing my old stomping grounds again! Spot is particularly the Galveston I remember from my youth!
  • Grew up here near Galveston, miss the old houses, the seawall, Dickens on the Strand, Moody Mansion. It was the best in the eighties/nineties ❤
  • I used to go to Galveston every summer when I was a kid. On new years 2000 my uncle rented a limousine and we had so much fun. I have great memories riding that ferry ⛴️
  • The bishop's mansion is a stunner of a building, I'm Australian and Texas is top of my list of places I want to visit I'm fascinated by the place & it's history.

Hi Nick. As a french, i love your videos because we are not used to see what you show to us. Oh, and i LOVE Mappy !
  • I remember in the 70s it being a grand place and family oriented. I went back in 96 and was shocked at how run down everything was. It is nice to see a comeback.

Nice to see a positive video about Galveston. I have a soft spot for it being born and raised there for my younger years. People like to point out the water when ever you bring Galveston up and trash it, but there are so many thing to do on Galveston besides swimming. I try to go there at least once or twice a year to hang around the island and haven't went swimming in the water in probably 10 years.
  • As a Texas native and current Galveston resident I can tell you; when we repair after a hurricane, we get white carpets and furniture because we know that we'll be replacing it before it gets too dirty. Too bad we no longer have The Balinese club of ZZ Top fame. Yeah, Ike took that too.
