I had the privilege of growing up with a Basset..best dog ever for small children..gentle..calm..loving..affectionate..I was terrified of big dogs because they jumped on me as a child..we got a basset hound. never was jumped on and I was loved unconditionally..

I had a friend in town visiting and we took his Basset hound with us to a bar with an outdoor area. I swear that dog thought it was his birthday with half the people that saw him fawning over him and petting him. Dog was shameless, but still a good boy.
