Ireland’s anti-immigration backlash has spiralled into country-wide unrest in recent months after a sharp rise in the number of foreigners arriving onto its shores. Protests, arson attacks and hardening anti-immigration views have transfused Irish politics with a fervour not seen since the Troubles.

Freelance journalist Michael Murphy went to Ireland for the Telegraph to find out what Irish people make of the growing strife.

  • At least the Irish are fighting back rather than just whinging about it.
  • @adipoem
It's become clear to me that governments do not act in the interest of their people.
  • @mischa1880
It's time to STOP calling these people "far right". They are indigenous Irish people. Ireland is their home.
  • @rooftile883
No shame to be anti immigration - it's YOUR country, culture, heritage.
  • @grossguy9570
It's not anti-immigration. It's, pro-let's take care of our own poor, our own homeless and our own problems, before we start helping others.

Allegedly stabbed by an Algerian? He was foreign born, came into the country illegally years ago, was eventually rewarded for his illegal actions and allowed to stay years later. He should have been deported years ago and the stabbing would have never have never happened.

Indigenous people have first rights on their homeland ,and have full rights to preserve their cultural roots , I am a Muslim and I respect that ,
  • @NRGhealer
It's no accident that this is happening all over the western world.
  • @steveharvey2203
STOP CALLING THEM ASYLUM SEEKERS, THEY ARE ECONOMIC MIGRANTS!!!
  • @shemmakanga8390
The main concerns are drugs, housing/homelessness, rape, pickpocketing, stabbings, welfare & healthcare impacted, school space, compromised and so on and so forth. The gov't has to change the immigration policy, taking care of its citizens more.

As an American with parents from Mexico I say keep Ireland Irish!
  • @Wench1888
Deport not support. Well done Ireland 🇮🇪 for speaking out.
  • @Y3MINEM
The fact that someone can say, "I'm afraid Ireland is becoming the new Sweden" and have everyone immediately understand that means more theft, more rape, more burglaries, more garbage, more no-go zones, etc, is precisely what's wrong with Europe.
  • Using the term “ far right” to describe these protests is a pathetic attempt to dismiss real concerns. These people are not far right, they are not fascists, they simply care about their country, their family’s and their culture. Ireland should not model themselves on Northern European countries , they are getting it very wrong also. I’m English and we have very similar problems, I support Irish people who simply want to protect themselves and their community.

The Irish people here are absolutely 100% accurate. Total truth spoken here.

Something is definitely not adding up. I'm in Vancouver Canada and it's 100X worse than Ireland. We've never built more than 200K homes in a year and yet we have an immigration mandate of 500K new immigrants per year. It's caused a decay within our society with outrageous housing costs, higher addiction rates, more crime, greater mental health problems, and more random acts of violence. Immigration only works when it benefits the country, not destroys it.
  • @Dana-pq7ke
I no longer think ANY immigration is okay. Boundaries are necessary.
