What do you mean "forgotten" ? By who?

I am a native of Bucharest and I was amazed by the new Marmorosch Hotel, the best in the city. Bucharest is a beautiful and interesting capital, but it is very off-center. Trains are slow (except the Constanta and Brasov lines) and highways are congested. So, if Bucharest is not your destination, consider taking a direct flight from Europe to secondary cities like Cluj and Timisoara. Actually, Budapest in Hungary is much closer to these Romanian cities than Bucharest. Oradea, 14 km from the Hungarian border is one of the most beautiful cities in Romana, but I don't know how frequent are direct international flights from Europe. Yes, Romania has joined Schengen airspace, but there are still ground border controls to Hungary and Bulgaria, the 2 EU neighbor countries.

From 1 April , Romania joined Schengen with air and water borders., but not if u travel with the car!
