  • I’m going to say - I was a casual fan of Scott Pilgrim. The movie was fun, but I never explored further. I was curious about the show, and honestly? This show is amazing. It got me deeply engaged with the plot, and with the characters, and that’s despite my lack of experience with the original source material. This show made me want to go and read the original graphic novels. It made me invested, and it got me wanting more

Honestly I'm cool with the anime's changes. Both the movie and books were all about Scott so shifting focus to Ramona and allowing her to simply talk out any problems with her exes and realize they weren't entirely evil? That's a sign of maturity on Bryan Lee O'Malley's part.

I've never consumed any other Scott Pilgrim media, but I loved this show so, 🤷‍♀️. I got a decent amount out of it.

I was so happy!! It feels like it lovingly referenced but also built upon and fixed up the movie and its plot. The humor also felt modern but perfectly in line with SPVTW

The only thing I think the show lacked was being more explicit in demonstrating that Ramona's way of running away from the people she loves is a big part of what makes them evil. Super Ramona would've had more weight behind it if Ramona faced the consequences of her actions with more regret. It's actually quite weird how she had no reaction to the fact that a person she cared about was supposedly killed because of a league she knew would kill Scott but didn't tell Scott about. Scott is far from perfect but his transformation into the 8th evil ex shows Ramona is deeply flawed. It's true that Scott locked himself in that room for 10 years but Ramona never made an effort to talk to him either. Thank you for reading this essay.

You put it beautifully! I've loved Scott Pilgrim all my life. I grew up with the series and the comics are movie was the kind of story I needed in my 20s and Takes Off is the encouragement and closure I need starting my 30s

Loved this show, thanks for making a video on it!

I don’t think wanting a direct adaptation is an unrealistic expectation. It’s just a different expectation. I like a lot of the themes of the show but would have loved to see Scott’s past more explored like they did in the comics. And I think they could have given Ramona her times to shine and the exes being fleshed out while still following the original plot. I miss seeing Lisa miller and envy’s past with Scott! And I wish I had an animated adaptation to point to people and go “if you want to see the comics animated, please see it here!” (Like most anime adaptations are to manga) I don’t think Scott pilgrims original story is simply “the characters live happily ever after”, they help each other change and grow. Scott realizes he’s a shitty person and Ramona confronts her exes. And knives gets development by the end of the comic, too!

100% agreed with all of your points here! I don’t understand why people are so upset that it ended up being a different story, because that made me more excited about it, and it ended up being amazing!
  • @Moostar95
My only issue is that I wish it was longer.
  • I'd actually feel like this is a matter of this being a modern adaptation and not an adaptation that was made years ago back when long cartoon/anime seasons were a thing. I think people expected a long-term adaptation of the comic like it was an traditional cartoon show with development that would run for a while.

This is a NEW TAKE, with new material; fans should be ecstatic.
  • This was the first piece of Scott Pilgrim media I consumed and I have already watched it twice and plan on watching it again. I'm kinda obsessed now, and am definitely going to be grabbing the books

never watched/read any scott pilgrim before i watched this, only a couple clips and second hand knowledge from my buddy. as pretty much an outsider, i loved it! the animation's great, the soundtrack's great, the characters are great and even though it was out of left field, the twist worked for me
  • I had conflicting thoughts too, so much that I couldn't sleep because of them But after a few days I came around and got past said thoughts
  • @Etticos.
As a fan of the comic first, then a fan of the movie, I loved the show and the changes.
  • @SASTSimon

(Warning: I’m making this comment before watching the video so I just wanted to clarify that) I really loved this anime a lot and I’m honestly glad they changed the story instead of retelling the same regurgitated plot over and over again. I feel as though that this anime takes place in the same universe as the OG story but is just a different timeline. I like how the anime doesn’t ignore the original plot and mentions of a few Easter eggs to it, but I feel as though that this anime is in “what if” situation.. basically asking what if Scott didn’t win the fight against one of his exes (other than Gideon ofc). Anyways it’s definitely clear if Scott didn’t lose any of the other fights, the events of the books and movies would play out. I also really like how Older Scott is the ORIGINAL Scott from the books/movie who is trying to stop himself from getting any closer w Ramona. I felt that concept was creative, however I just wish we saw more of this story, more of Scott, and even see some of the other characters from the book who have unfortunately been reduced to background characters that appear in the final episode such as Lisa and Joseph😔

Thank you for mentioning the interviews I was so confused when people were upset takes off isn't a 1 to 1 adaption. I was like what? They said it wasn't going to be😭
  • @newrudo
I really enjoyed the anime, thanks for the video.
