Episode 17

Double Dragon is one of the most influential video games ever made! It gave us the blueprint for the entire Beat 'Em Up genre - Without Double Dragon, we'd have never seen games like Final Fight, Streets of Rage, or The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles arcade game.

But how did this great gaming classic get made? What previous games and movies inspired it? Why is the NES version so different from what we saw in the arcades?

We'll dive into all of that on today's episode, and then we'll learn:

* Ways to manipulate the Experience system, so you can get all of the most advanced techniques early!

* How to use ALL of the game's moves - which ones are powerful, and which ones are weak!

* How to avoid the game's most dangerous traps!

*Secret tricks for defeating ALL of the game's bosses... AND MORE!

SPECIAL NOTE - Music Track from Iron Mike Sharp!

In today's video I'm featuring a song by Iron Mike Sharp! Iron Mike makes AMAZING remixes of Nintendo chip tunes. If you enjoy old school video game music, make sure to check him out. You can listen to his entire album for FREE at this Link: ironmikesharp.bandcamp.com/album/the-nintendo-tape

Full disclaimer: I'm NOT getting paid in any way to promote Iron Mike Sharp, I just actually like the music!

Great video. A cool trick in mission 2 is when u climb the fence and steal the bat from the Williams then fall off that ledge to the other side. Walk to the enemy at the top to trigger him to walk just past the girder. Then climb the fence and go all the way to the other side and fall off the fence. Then climb the fence walk back towards the other side and fall again off the fence ( avoid falling into the pit). Walk near the girder and start hitting the punch or kick button. For some reason, the game glitches and it thinks a Williams will b there. If you do it right you'll hear a sound as if you're hitting something. You can do this and basically farm all the XP hearts and get all you're techniques. I know that's long winded and that I hope i explained it well enough.

This is seriously my favorite channel for NES games! You make it so entertaining with all your attention to detail while taking us through the game....

Whip those Linda’s like it’s 50 shades of grey.

The arcade version was my greatest achievement. My parents bowled and would give us two quarters all night so you had to make them last. I got so good at the arcade version that I beat it in one quarter. I love D.D. I count that as my best gaming achievement. Being poor at the time FORCED you to get good. LOL

Well isn't it great to see some gameplay with no fake hypes and screams. Excellent video. Thanks for the upload, enjoyed the relaxed mood. 👍🏻

The green abobo strat is interesting! I was basically just spamming back elbows the whole time. I love to see the different ways to approach the game!

Your videos are great, brings me back 35 years when I owned my first NES. Still paying today. Solar Jetman one of my faves
  • You beat the game in twenty mins! I spend half my childhood stuck on level 3

In the arcades, I remember lines of dudes waiting to play; with a row of quarters along the bottom of the screen, for those who would be next to play. Wasn't a fan myself, but I definitely see why it was all the rage, back in what I like to call, the day.

I beat Double Dragon for the first and only time in my life after first playing it 32 years ago. You a legend! THANK YOU
  • @EMM-dd1vs
I never played this in the arcade. I'm really sad I never experienced having to fight my partner at the end. That is a really cool feature... I remember playing these types of games with you as a kid. I have been learning how to beat games from you for 30 years.

I literally never knew Double Dragon had character levels until today :(
