Star-Lord has been around way before his time on the Guardians of the Galaxy, but his past is weird... like really really weird...

  • Funny that MCU star lord basically thinks of himself as the star lord from the comics
  • @AndrewPowerSM
The implication I got is that when Peter becomes enlightened, he speaks to his past self in the trippy void, and "The Master of the Sun" was actually him all along, nudging his younger self on to the right path in life. ALSO.... "Sun's out, guns out."

Cracks open a cold one "Jesus was the first star lord." Sips "What." "You heard me."

Star-Lord went from Space Jesus Cop, disappears for decades to become super stoic Master Chief (EMH even got Steve Downes to voice him), then when Gunn made the movie, he gave the entire cosmic side a overhaul. For better, he's now a distinct character... on the other side, early in the movie adaptions era tried WAY to hard, at least now adaptions figured out a compromise of doing the MCU, while doing new stuff within the main comic universe.

I love how the original Yondu was established as being from Earth-691, so they took the opportunity to establish Yondu in the 616 reality as just being Michael Rooker’s character.

I remember back in the day Star-Lord was like Master Chief, now he’s Chris Pratt
  • @Emike-nc9ew
Yeah, star lord from EMH is really a time capsule to what he was before being MCU-ized
  • No wonder why James Gunn takes so many creative liberties when writing Guardians' films, Star Lord's character alone is just so convoluted.

Honestly ever since I learned that Star-Lord is primarily wearing blue in the comics the red jacket design just started to look off to me. I rarely played with the red jacket outfits in the game, often opting for the Post Annihilation or 2019 comic run outfit depending on what mood I was in. I think on NG+ I'll wear his suit from the 2013 comic run, it's so sleek.

You’re missing context for why Al Ewing reintroduced the whole Master of the Sun thing, so I’ll fill you in; it was basically a big attempt to make Star-Lord less like Chris Pratt, as his character had been completely changed due to MCU synergy. Reintroducing the more mystical elements of Quill’s origin allowed Ewing to rework Peter’s character and even make him bisexual and polyamorous. His adventures in that other dimension are also an attempt to do the original storyline that Englehart wanted to do; you’ll notice that in that issue, Quill’s adventures correspond to the houses of Astrology. Much like he did with Immortal Hulk, Ewing called on old continuity with a new spin to let him “reboot” Peter and make him more like his old character while retaining some of his MCU-ness. It was a brilliant move on his part and made the character more interesting then he’s been in a long time
  • James Gunn straight up transformed the entire lore and looks of Guardians of the Galaxy with just one movie but I don’t mind the design for Star Lord personally I just find it weird they made Ego the living planet his dad like why not just use the Spartax orgin that would’ve been way cooler in my opinion

Owen Grandy (Jurassic World) Peter Quill/Star-Lord (MCU) Emmet Brickowski (Lego Movie) Cooper Daniels (Ben 10: Ultimate Alien) Jake/Gorilla Boy (The Batman 2004) Obi-Wan Kenobi (Kinect Star Wars) Barley Lightfoot (Pixar's Onward) Super Mario (Illumination's Mario Movie 2022) Garfield (New Garfield Movie TBC) We have so many Chris Pratt characters we can make a Chris Pratt battle royal.

Can we just talk about how the "Master of the Sun" gave him his "powers" and Starlord was almost played by Glenn Howerton.
  • @sinvector8020
My first exposure of Star-Lord was the EMH cartoon, and yeah, so weird looking back at it now...
  • @clementgoh9270
First exposure to Star Lord was from the Annihilation comics and damn he was so different in the MCU. As someone who was a big fan of that whole saga, I found myself disappointed when the character I liked was changed in order to match the movie counterpart. I actually like the space scoundrel but I really liked Nova's and Peter's dynamic and the space scoundrel didn't seem like the same character.
  • @Dalenthas
"It was a lot of fun to read, even if I didn't quite get all of it." - seems like that could be applied to a lot of Al Ewing's books 😅
  • So between the child of the celestial madonna, Adam warlock, and Starlord Marvel surs loves the idea of "space jesus".
  • @o.8.p149
I like Peter being a prince but I do actually like the MCU everything else more
  • After that end credits from Guardians of the Galaxy 3, it's very possible that Peter Quil will have his own solo movie called "Star Lord" just like the comic.
  • @sergioruiz733
I remember my brother explaining his origin to me when I started reading Annihilation where Peter Quill had a cyborg eye and face? I had no idea who the character was and Abnett and Lanning's run made me fall in love with the character,..... then Bendis came along and yeah.....Duggan and Cates tried to fix the MCUing of the Guardians that Bendis did, but honestly Ewing has been the writer that has combined Engleharts origins while retaining that familiarity that Abnett and Lanning created that we loved. Edit:Also didn't know Timothy Zahn had wrote his own version of Star-Lord
