Sir Keir Starmer is summoning his cabinet later this morning for a meeting to establish their agenda after the election win.

Following the gathering, Sir Keir will hold a news conference - the first since he was elected as prime minister.

It means he will likely face questions from the press as the country's leader for the first time, rather than as leader of the opposition.

Oh. So that is what a Prime Minister is meant to look like.

Marvellous. Like many other comments here: a breath of fresh air to see an adult in charge. From the start, it's obvious the PM is able to engage with people. He talks to them - not at them. Starmer actually answers questions with honesty and with actions and solutions - while being realistic.

Finally someone explaining his work. Not just book talk!
  • @bustedfender
The last government traumatised an entire nation, pandemic or not.
  • @TheWild90
A PM that actually answers the questions put to them. Amazing.
  • Can anyone imagine Boris Johnson thinking like this? The first thing he did when he won the 2019 election was to find a donor to pay for his holiday.
  • 2nd day and keir starmer is blowing every recent pm out the water- total professinal with a strong moral compass!
  • I am shook.... I think this is the first PM I have ever seen answer questions.... like REALLY answer, instead of some political non-speak

What's funny is everyone saying lots of people didn't vote for labour; no they didn't, but the pattern the overwhelming number of people DID vote for was change.
  • @user-te9pu1ox6j
I didn’t vote for labour but frankly speaking this is a grown up politics

What a relief to finally see some seriousness and professionalism in a PM press conference
  • @Traceva
Blimey! A Prime Minister who actually takes Questions from all the Journalists and , even more importantly, answers all the Questions I’d forgotten what this looks and sounds like! I like him

First impressions of this government are good. I didn't even vote for them.

Please can we not vote for MPs on the basis of charisma ever again.
  • What an impressive and mature press conference. Relevant questions and clear answers with measurable outcomes. It’s a long time since we had a sensible adult in charge. Such a different tone.

Tuning in to see what Sir Keir Starmer has to say after his first cabinet meeting!

Such a huge sense of relief to see grown ups with integrity in charge

Wow. To have a PM who's not there dividing people is a refreshing change
  • @geosmith3436
Definitely sounds more professional than the last bunch of clowns and their circus
  • What gave me optimism was when he said he will be a PM that respects ALL british people and therefore implying he wont be seeking to identify cheap scapegoats to use as a reason why we are struggling as a country. We all want the best for ourselves and there is much that can bring us closer together than apart. More helping each other out and less trying to hurt each other. We will see how things go, but I live in hope
