I feel like chat intentionally interrupts the trailer just to get Dontai on some rampage about something that has nothing to do with it

just so you know, I've heard that they change yasuke's story to fit in with the narrative that they're trying to create in ac, but hopefully it's just as enticing to play as that was to watch

Dontai the type of guy to turn a 3 min trailer reaction into a 30 min video.

  • There is not a lot we know about Yasuke. He’s more or less a footnote in history who came from somewhere in Africa, may or may not have been a slave, became a retainer of nobunaga with all of the perks that entailed, may or may not have been a samurai, and then disappeared after the death of Nobunaga and nobunaga’s son. If Yasuke wasn’t black we probably wouldn’t have heard about him at all. He stood out in central Japan at the time because of his skin color and his height (he towered over the average Japanese person at the time. If you want to know more I would suggest looking up Metatron’s video on the subject.

If this was the type of sh*t they were teaching in my history class I would have passed with flying colors.

"You ask about Yasuke, who is known to have worked as a retainer of Nobunaga Oda during the Sengoku period in Japan. The only thing we know about him is that he was probably from the area around present-day Mozambique, and that the Jesuits brought him to Japan from India. He worked as a missionary escort in Japan, but it is not known in what capacity. There is no conclusive testimony, as he was said to have been a slave or to have been of a certain rank. Missionaries used many blacks as slaves, but rarely brought them to Kyoto. Since it was very rare to see a dark-skinned person in Kyoto, many people gathered to see him, which is said to have caused some trouble. However, it seems that this did not happen with him, but among the onlookers. Nobunaga Oda was one of those who took an interest in him. Initially, Nobunaga suspected that his black color was a trick, so he had him wash himself and became more and more interested in him as he learned that it was not artificially colored. Eventually, he was hired by Nobunaga to be his retainer. According to some accounts, he was not a slave but a true retainer, which would suggest that Nobunaga at least considered him one of his regular retainers. However, he was a retainer of Nobunaga for approximately one year. In June 1582, a year and two months after he became the talk of Kyoto, Oda Nobunaga was ambushed and killed at Honnoji Temple. At this time he is captured by his attacker, Mitsuhide Akechi, who orders that he not be killed but turned over to Christian missionaries because he is an animal, and he is transferred to one of the churches that were being built at the time. It is not clear whether Mitsuhide really thought he was an animal or whether he lied to get him off scot-free, and the truth of these words remains a mystery. And since going to church, Yasuke's whereabouts have been completely unknown. Taken together, Yasuke is almost certainly real, but he is a great enigma. We do not know what language he could speak, nor do we know what Oda Nobunaga's other retainers thought of him. This kind of existence is perfect for describing the imagination that historical fiction likes to have about him. And perhaps you are one of them. In any case, he is a great enigma."

The people saying “yasuke wasn’t a samurai and was a retainer” Have the be the most annoying people I have ever interacted with online, I promise a simple search will tell you they are LOKEY the same shit. What is a samurai? “Samurai were the hereditary military nobility and officer caste of medieval and early-modern Japan from the late 12th century until their abolition in the late 1870s during the Meiji era. They were the well-paid RETAINERS of the daimyo, the great feudal landholders. They had high prestige and special privileges.” These people seem like the type to say “Person X wasn’t a Swordsman he was a fencer” Like bruh 💀
