omg, i havnt heard this song for ever. i was a freshmen in high school when he died, i grew up in seattle, so as you can imagine. he was god. plus i have the same name as him. so i always felt a bond to him and nirvana.. im proud to say i lived and continue to live the grunge life style. rip kurt. ive missed your great music. but love the music you left us with. thanks. your fan curt.....

the word "downer" has several meanings 1. something that makes you feel down/sad 2. a depressant drug (like alcohol or heroin) 3. the sluggishness and fatigue that comes after a drug peak has worn off (e.g. "the weed is starting to wear off, i just hit my downer") as for the meaning of the song itself, i don't know.
