DOWNFALL is absolutely amazing. On par with Saving Private Ryan in every way. There is debate about humanizing him too much but, you have to remember they were just the worst of humans. Most films never showed him beyond a picture on a desk or on the wall. The fact that this was made by the Germans themselves speaks volumes. It's an admission of guilt in a sense. Sometimes you forget you're watching a movie and not a documentary, or even in the suffocating room itself.

What’s surprising is the fact that he still at the very end was blaming Jews.. the only thing this guy had for humanity was for everyone and everything that was around him at the end, like giving away his art. (like they would really accept it…) he seemed more caring to his fellow followers at the end as well, even to the youth. To think what was going on inside that devils brain..

I remember watching a video of a German reacting to the eastern front, and he had a grandfather in the cavalry who died by a grenade in a village near Warsaw. This YouTuber had letters from his great grandparents, and they were legitimately talking about how the war was going to be an easy win, and the “great turn” will happen. They wrote this letter a few months before the grandfather died. It goes to show you just how brainwashed the German troops were.

But... Stalin's brutality IS legendary. Is it insanity to fight when surrender would mean brutal death? If they surrendered, I can easily see Stalin ordering the dismemberment, then beheading of every man, woman and child in the city.
