Lyrics:

#There must be some way out of here, said the joker to the thief,
Theres too much confusion, I cant get no relief.
Businessmen, they drink my wine, plowmen dig my earth,
None of them along the line know what any of it is worth.

No reason to get excited, the thief, he kindly spoke,
There are many here among us who feel that life is but a joke.
But you and i, weve been through that, and this is not our fate,
So let us not talk falsely now, the hour is getting late.

All along the watchtower, princes kept the view
While all the women came and went, barefoot servants, too.

Outside in the distance a wildcat did growl,
Two riders were approaching, the wind began to howl.#

I would prefer not to compare Hendrix's version with Dylan's. I love them both like they are two different songs.

Man, Bob Dylan is just an amazing song writer. The way he can spin words into a story through song. I love Jimi Hendrix and Hendrix's version, but give Bob Dylan his due where he deserves it.

i don't care what anyone says this is still my favourite version of this song - just the bare bones, concise, perfect as it is

I think I like Bob Dylan's version best. There's a rawness and simplicity that is captivating.

When Bob Dylan heard Jimi Hendrix's version of this song, he came to Jimi and said, "It's yours. I'm never performing this song again."

The rhythm on this is awesome. When Jimi Hendrix does it, he takes it to a totally far out level.

When I first heard Dylan, I wasnt sold on it. However, my girlfriend is a huge Dylan fan, and she would play it on the way to school and back, and slowly I began to realize that this, this is music. Ive completely changed my opinions on Dylan and have learned to like his music, and it was a change for the better.

I still very much prefer this version. Its rhythm fits the words perfectly and the words are so very powerful
  • John Lennon said (to a young man sleeping in his garden) " We all play around with words. And Dylan is the best".. Yoiu know Bowie wrote a song for you Mr. Robert Zimmerman on his Hunky Dory album. And apparently you hated it! Hell! We need more people like you Bobby ( and Bowie )..You deserved the Nobel Prize...Peace and Love...Weird Bill from Scotland.
