There's a common misconception that Clone Trooper armor is somehow more advanced than Stormtrooper armor. We're going to get to the root of why people believe this and why its completely wrong.

  • I remember the TFU2 had a comic adaptation where a bounty hunter woman tagging along with Boba Fett tried to scavenge and sell the armor of dead Stormtroopers because of how valuable that gear was on the black market.
  • @AAronFoxxs
"Welcome back to another episode of friends." got me there again!!
  • Did you also notice in the Clonewars series that trafic laws are set per planet. And not federalized. You can see this bc on some planets they drive/fly on the left, while on others they drive/fly on the right.
  • For context, blaster bolts in the OT Era explode like grenades whenever they hit something. The fact that a Stormtrooper can take that and still live goes to show how good that armor is. It's like getting shot with a HE round and walking it off like you were just kicked in the chest.

Leia herself said the only reason they walked out of the Death Star was because they were being tracked Look at stormtroopers at the Mandalorian, how the rarely miss a shot
  • @attila535
Stormtrooper helmets also had a safety lock built into them, so that only the soldier it was issued could use it properly.

I think that a lot of people forget what a blaster to the body actually does, and that the armor is not designed to stop the round as much as it is to disperse the energy contained in the shot. Since the shots are plasma they would literally boil flesh, blood, and organs. The armor disperses it, and there are small details in some of the clonewars battles where we see the aftermath and many of the downed clones are not dead but knocked out or just too injured to get up on their own. Sometimes the downed clones move a little in ways like raising their arms or rolling a bit, which would be similar to someone being shot in a bullet proof vest. One medium to high caliber round would knock them flat on their back and break a rib or two, and it can take a few small caliber rounds, but too many and it is ineffective, or too powerful and they still die.

Even if the stun round didn't affect the armor's electronics, i remember reading somewhere that storm trooper helmets are linked to the owner. In a new hope Luke couldn't see anything out of the helmet because he didn't own that helmet so all those hud features were switched off meaning he was stuck looking through thin eye holes through polarized glass with no help from the helmet. Rex probably couldn't see anything out of that helmet because it was switched off too. Clone helmets didn't have an on switch, they just worked. You can see through it. Sure did help those commando droids pull off a clone trooper act when they can easily see through the helmet. Also i don't think that was Tarkin's plan to put a homing beacon and let the rebels go. His attitude towards Vader tells me that was Vader's idea and it was a ploy he made before. Vader put a homing beacon on a shuttle so when the ghost crew stole it and returned to their fleet, it triggered and lead Vader right to them.
  • The equipment of the Stormtroopers is almost phase III armor, practically speaking. It’s like comparing body armor from wwII to modern Kevlar. Both work, one is just lighter and more reliable with modern materials. The big difference in my mind is still the quantity of soldiers. They could not produce enough clones on Kamino to police the Empire and deal with insurrections. They had to switch to general recruitment because they couldn’t afford to wait an entire decade to see a bump in recruitment numbers. With the Stormtrooper corp they could exceed the number of clones in just one 2 year training cycle because they can be recruited and trained across the galaxy.
  • Unfortunately much like any sci-fi universe, the biggest counter to the honestly reliable common infantryman's kit is plot necessity. All known military research R & D branches are actively trying to develope "anti plot convenience" technology but currently have little to no success.
  • @theCantinafan
Oh it's Generation Tech. I thought it was Carl filling in for Allen again.
  • @nobodyknows9937
I want to say think this can be chalked up to the fact we usually see people with stormtrooper armor going up against people with plot armor. They do great off camera or against no-name rebels on the ground. But then I remember ROTJ and the ewoks and suddenly this position doesn't seem very solid.
  • @maxtaylor14
this is my favorite star wars channel, not only do you cover new and interesting topics instead of every video being a topic that’s already been beaten to death but unlike most star wars channels now it’s not a pool of negativity and hate it’s refreshing.
  • @dawall3732
It was the original Star Wars movies where the Stormtrooper equipment started being put down. When Luke Skywalker and Han Solo went to rescue the princess, they commented on how hard it was to see out of the helmets. Ever since that has been the running gag as to why they can't shoot and hit a target.
  • @Psub950
200 First Order Stormtroopers vs 200 Clone Troopers please
  • @roethar
The cut to Obi Wan saying "To democracy!" is pleasing :) I always say it that way in my head in the outro 😅
  • @dannylavoie8348
I used to play the West End Star Wars RPG as a game master. Believe me, Stormtroopers are not pushovers. Its just that main characters have higher stats and plot armor.
  • G-Tech droppin' goodies in the early hours of the afternoon? Why thank ye, sir!
  • The more time passes in this IP, the more I struggle to believe the rate of technological advancement across the movies given how stagnant their technology has been for thousands of years.
