In a shocking twist, the FIA disqualified George Russell from the Belgian GP for his car being 1.5 kilos underweight. This handed Lewis Hamilton his 105th career win and second of the season. Was there anything Mercedes could have done to avoid this, and did they know beforehand?
Russell's disqualification, due to a weight issue influenced by his one-stop strategy, cost Mercedes 18 points in the constructors' championship. Hamilton, who originally finished second, expressed mixed feelings about inheriting the win but praised the team's strategy. Toto Wolff explained the differing strategies for Hamilton and Russell, aiming to cover potential undercuts from competitors.
As Mercedes plans more upgrades for the next race in Zandvoort, they aim to challenge Red Bull and maintain their competitive edge.

As was stated during the race, a pit stop was losing drivers 18 seconds. The two Mercedes drivers were NOT treated the same an Hamilton knows it and now the Mercedes team lose the possible points. Not very smart. Add another entry to the spreadsheet, weight loss due to staying out per lap.

Considering Mercedes left fuel in the car to cover up the lighter car weight. I feel the real question is, Are Mercedes Incompetent or just straight out cheating? 🤔

Seems that Russell has shot himself in the foot! Had he pitted for a fresh set of tyres, and let Hamilton into the lead, he, Russell would have at least have the opportunity to attack Hamilton and others. Mercedes could have at least have gained points with both cars?

The cars have been checked before start - ist was a bad situation for the driver to win a competition and finaly is out - bad for the viewer to see a winner on ceremony - better to check all things before start - the audiance like to see - the winner is the driver who cross the final line or square flag.

Is it BS the rumour that suggests that the trams could fit lighter rims and tyres to the mid stint in 2 stoppers, then for full weight items for final stint?

I think Merc made the right decision to come in to change tires like EVERY OTHER TEAM thought ... merc had no choice but to take a chance letting Russel out and it worked out for them until ....

Ironically, it's probably because he was protecting his tyres so used less fuel.
