TheCarGuys are old. We all know this.
But as a consequence they have a passion for the 1990s cars that were brand new when they were first driving.
More dangerous, unreliable and uneconomical than modern day vehicles they may be. But 1990s cars are also better looking, cooler, more individual, lighter, more exhilarating, quirky, iconic and ultimately moreā¦ fun.
And this week itās time to reveal the 90s cars that impetuous car purchaser, Damian, would buy in a heartbeat. A personal guided journey through the 10 cars that make his pulse quicken enough to hand over his debit card.
This episode was recorded at 4 Star Classics - a car dealer that specialises modern classics. Many of the cars featured in the background of this episode are for sale - check them out at www.4starclassics.com.

Watching this video I realised I get far more excited about those 90s cars than modern day supercars.
-
The 90s were indeed the absolute best. My garage over the years has moved away from modern to almost all 90s cars. Its better to drive a slow car fast than a fast car slow. And with the reliabilty and comfort of the 90s cars... this is the absolute sweet spot.

For me there are two cars that encapsulate everything good about the 90's. The E31 BMW 850csi. Is there anything more cool past or present? Quad cam V12 with pop ups, without the Ferrari pricetag. The other is the Lotus Carlton. Take a Vauxhall Carlton GSI and let Lotus change it so much, that Vauxhall no longer wanted their badge or name to have anything to do with it š GM told Lotus to go to town with these cars, and they did. They increased the displacement of the engine, used forged pistons and rods, converted it to be turbocharged, wide arches and wider wheels, bigger brakes, complete suspension upgrade and they were only painted in dark green. Oh and they had a higher top speed than most supercars of the time as well š bonkers stuff that could only have happened in the early 90's. The concorde era of "screw it, lets just do it anyway"

The fiat coupe is simply one of the most beautiful looking cars ever made, it is a work of art. The 20vt is off the scale performance wise. I own one, ive always wanted one ever since i saw one in leeds cc in 1996!
-
Very inspiring message about attaining one's dreams, Damian. Would love to see a review on the modern NSX. People's opinions of that car have not exactly matched the sales results.
-
Having bought my dadās then 6 year old 300E back in 1997.. (Iām a similar age to you..) the 500E has always been one of my favourites.. The subtle muscular styling is spot on.. would love to have one, but.. that ship has sailed now. Great video!!! Love it!
-
The original NSX got a mild facelift in 97 / 98 in the form of perforated leather seats, new style wheels and a 3.2ltr engine with a 6 speed manual box. Still retained the pop up headlights. V-Tec howl at 5k and up was fantastic.
-
Just wonderful Damian. Could not agree more, just so many gorgeous wonderful cars in the 90ās, the hard bit of course is finding a nice one that has not been ragged to death. Prices are going skyward mainly because āfunā stuff is getting SO rare now. š¢

Great video! I bought the first Miata, june 16th 1989, received at my town dealer, QuĆ©bec Canada. The sound of this very first generation was incredible. Kept it for 21 years, sold it with less than 80 000 kms! No regret, good memories. Salutations du šØš¦
-
thanks for such a GREAT video and bringing back teenage years memories. 2 cars I remember lusting after were: Honda CRX (folding roof model) and Porsche 911 flat nose. Also (VERY rare) Yamaha ox99-11. (What an amazing-looking car...in my opinion)
-
Great vid and no surprises that japanese cars feature so heavily. They were the pinicle of the 90s. Id take a healthy 200sx s14a over fiat coupe and the 300zx.. for its rear wheel drive, light weight, high driver engagement, but i think they go under the radar somewhat and are pretty damn rare in good condition now.
-
Missed my favouriteā¦ā¦the Porsche 968 Club Sportā¦..or the almost unobtainable turbo version thereof. One of the best handling cars I have driven, great on the twistiest, or motorway.
-
Agree on most of this! Especially the Fiat Coupe 20VT, I drove one for 12 years. Best car Iāve had! Replaced by a Z4M Coupe which isnāt half as fun
-
Some great choices, I also have an irrational soft spot for the Fiat Coupe 20v, I remember test driving the demonstration car at my local Fiat dealer and loved it.
-
Great list Damien, what about the 560SEC. Although they are cars from the late 80s. I had one for 12 years. Sensational car. Should have kept it. The MX5 and NSX are my pick on your list.
-
I'd still take a Nissan Bluebird over the vast majority of cars (all of 'em) - I loved them. I drive a '96 Celica, much as I love that, I'd swap it for an 80's Carina or a Bluebird. They just had "something" about them. The 90's Carina was also a cracking car - tough, comfy, fast enough..
-
Well done! I love all the cars on your list, I would definitely add the Skyline R33 GTR, Honda Civic Vtec and two cars made in South Africa, BMW e30 325is and a Opel Kadett Superboss.
-
993 911 Turbo S, never knew it was that quick. Every day is a school day. Mr B, you are smashing these videoās. Itās helping me get over a hangover from Hellā¦ā¦charity do yesterday for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance. I drank that much I thought theyād have to scramble the Chooper!
-
Some nice cars on that list, Damian. Love the 500E. Would like to see the 2016-> NSX on the channel.
-
Some great choices there, but as a South African my list would include a few South African only "Specials... The Opel Kadett 200 GSi "Superboss" Either one of the Opel Kadett or Astra 200TS The BMW e30 325is EVOII Great choice on the Nissan though, I had a friend in South Africa that had the turbo model, that thing was brutal on the highway, Nissan also had two very popular models there too in the form of the Sentra 200 STi and the Sabre 200 GXi, both 2L 16V that could hold their own on the street against much bigger and more powerful cars...
