LYRICS:

fragilely, gradually and surrounding
the horse lies naked in the shed
evergreen anodyne decompounding
flies draw sugar from his head

his eyes are blueberries, video screens,
minneapolis schemes and the dried flowers
from books half-read
the juice of dark cherries cover his chin
the dog walks in and the crow lies in his
jaw like lead.

everything eats and is eaten
time is fed

early evening the pink ring swallows
the spherical marigold terrain
sleepily, venus sinks and hollows
the stationed headlight of a plane

you are as far from me as memory,
which fixtures fracture varyingly
the juice of dark cherries cover my
skin – six years in, no baby

everything eats and is eaten

ingydar bares a scar like a meteor
crystalline amber guilds her cheek
tambourine of the beech leaves lead her
to the raven playing hide and seek

drying blueberries, figurine of the angel leans
at the head of the bed
the juice of dark cherries cover my chin
the dog walks in and the crow lies in his smile like lead

everything eats and is eaten, time is fed

“Everything eats and is eaten, time is fed” absolutely breathtaking. Words are the closest thing to real magic.
  • the fact that I found this song 2 whole years after its release is the reason why you never say "music is dying." there's always beautiful stuff out there waiting to be found.

This whole album is like a strange loopy beautiful dream in the woods

When I was little, we had to drag our decomposing cow, Oreo, out from under the shed and out into an open field where the vultures could peck her body. She died from being underfed. It really disturbed me when I was younger. I think about it often. Thank you, Adrienne.

Adrianne lenkers music can either be interpreted as a cloudy but warm day in the summer just before a rainstorm, or a sunny day laying in a field of grass and feeling the warmth on your skin

this song sounds like a lonely summer afternoon
  • this song has inspired my writing so much, i legit created an ingydar tag on AO3. The lyrics in this song are so beautiful, all prose should aspire to this level.

That's the most sadly gorgeous thing I've heard in a very long time. It has an ageless feel to it that I simply adore.

I remember listening to this song constantly last fall. My agoraphobia was really bad then, and I listened to this when I was anxious to calm me down. Thank you. You cannot fathom how much comfort this song has brought me as well as many other people.

I really loved 'Songs & Instrumentals' when it came out but generally skipped over this song until 2 weeks ago, when stray dogs killed our neighborhood cat Budzgi who was semi-feral but lived at our porch for 3 years and was affectionate towards us. Seeing his mauled body was quite traumatizing, as well as arranging burial for a creature that was alive and well hours ago but I kept composure. For some reason, the next day I put on the album and when this song came up, I listened to the lyrics and completely broke down into tears - which is part of the healing, I guess. This is a perfect album from start to finish - poetic, mystical and melancholic
  • This song breaks me and rebuilds me every time I listen to it. Masterpiece!

Initially, I thought the hook was "Everything needs some defeating." And even though that's not it, for some reason that struck a chord with me.

One of the prettiest songs ever. I love it.
  • With a mix fragrant of darkness, I felt everything we had encountered through are developed based on the nature. Thank you for this music
