This tutorial introduces the viewer to the legendary Fender VI Electric Bass Guitar. The Fender Six String Electric Bass was introduced in 1961 and is tuned like a standard six string guitar, but with all strings tuned one octave lower than a normal guitar.

Many famous recordings have featured this unique instrument including The Long and Winding Road, Back in the USSR, Hey Jude and Helter Skelter by the Beatles. The instrument is further featured on recordings by Aerosmith, The Band, Cream, The Cure and jazz guitar legend Wes Montgomery among many others.

This tutorial takes a close look at many of the distinctive features of the Fender Bass VI and demonstrates the instrument in a jazz piano trio setting, a heavy metal trio format and as a solo instrument played in a modern guitar style, rather than as a bass.
