Normally, I don't do demos for those budget products you find mostly on Amazon. And I was going to say no to this, too.

But I decided to give the checks notes "Vangoa Guitar Pedal Board with Built in Power Supply Board 9V/12V/18V for 10-12 Pedals Aluminium Alloy Portable Folding Powered Guitar Pedalboard with Carry Bag, Pedal Cables, Medium" a try.

I cut to the chase within the first minute of this video, but I highly recommend watching the whole thing for product info and a look into the good and the bad of using this thing exclusively for a few weeks.

It seems like this might do in a pinch, but probably backup board status at best. Thanks for road testing it for the rest of us!

I've always been curious about these kinds of boards but there's never any good demo vids for them. Thanks for this!
  • Ohio, huh.. Hey, in case you're not sure and need validation, you do bring good vibes and substance to the table of guitar channels, more than most. I like the granular electricity numbers and explanations, that's a nice touch, the tech acumen, both edifying and impressive. The casual sort of humor, not only does it work but it differentiates you. You're finding a good rhythm, you and your ... assistant, and I hope the algorithm agrees in the form of eleven million subs, not just for your sake, but for eleven million of us to learn from and be entertained by you, also the meow pedal companies. I have no advice but to keep it up. Thanks!

They give stuff like this weird long names to hit every search term they can think of.

Great channel. Loving Your comedic timingπŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚. I am a fan now. Cute and funny.
  • I have my Main Pedal Board (Gator Extra Large) with two Gator Bricks (5 spot and an 8 spot) and I ran into milliamp issues with two of my pedals (Ibanez Echoshifter and EHX Oceans 11) where I had to use wall warts on those. So I have thirteen pedals but only use 11 of the spots on both bricks. Fortunately for me what I did was Velcro a smaller power strip under the board so that I just have one electric cord and I was able to connect all plugs and warts (I also put an LED light strip under the board which needed a USB port) and everything fits well. I do want to get some frost plastic for the front facing holes but the board pretty much does everything I want a board to do. I have two other boards but I just use a One Spot daisy chains on those and they work fine, they are Standard or Budget Pedals so there isn't a heavy duty requirement for great electrical demand.

"in an environment where water, moisture or high temperature is present" Sounds like 95% of small clubs where bands and crowds are sweating their ass off :D To check for isolation, you can get a multimeter and measure resistance between all ports center ans sleeve. There should be no connection between different ports, so infinite resistance on everything. And yeah, I've seen a lot of cheaper power supplies claiming to be isolated, but most of them have been common ground and just have single voltage regulators or even just a diode on each port. Can be fine for a lot of stuff (my whole board is daisychained, no problem at all), but it's not isolated.

I bought the Stritch non powered board for a second small-ish board....but this one looks cool to have as well

What a fantastic video have a wonderful day Emily also happy birthday happy first day of summer ❀😊

I know how frustrating this can be, especially when you need something reliable to hold up with gigs and on small tours. It's also quite annoying and frustrating to have something working, and then two days later something isn't right. I know at the end you said you felt it was worth the money, but will you continue to use it? Is there another item/product that you normally use that you like better? I ask because I've been looking at and researching boards as of late. I always feel that the power supply is the most important key to the puzzle and to many is overlooked. Very cool video Emily, I greatly enjoyed it!

@get offset-As some one that has been playing guitar for over 30yrs and have played out many times, you will find if you get rid of the pedals and focus on your guitar playing, your song writing and musicanship will go up drasticly..3-4 pedals AFTER you do that, will add to that..i realized ,after years, i was relying on pedals because of my lack of skill on the guitar...only trying to help mainly bcause i wish someone would have told me earlier..kick some ass at the show!

I’ve come away thinking both that this looks like an amazing deal, and also feeling more confident that building my first board with a Pedaltrain and Cioks was a good choice. How do you like the Shure wireless? Is the tuner good? I was just looking at that one.
  • I have a similar one that's a sweetwater kit that has a few more 'hungry' spots - (I think five) it works pretty well for a bargain - though I don't gig.

I feel your frustration, troubleshooting pedalboards is the worst, particularly in a time crunch. I'd also worry a bit about the same thing I worry about with my own Amazon board, namely those power sockets are right on the front edge, meaning they are easy prey to damage from moving or even on stage (I have a few intermittent leads to attest to this). If they would just set them back like an inch or so, there would be a world of difference.
  • @r1208
I’d be curious to see you demo one of the Donner power supplies, that people seem to love or hate. I’ve been using two of them on my board and I haven’t run into any issues, but it would be interesting to see someone test it at a show.

Those translated safety instructions are hilarious.

I have a couple of the Outlaw Effects versions of this generic powered board. A small one (one row of 5-6 pedals) and the large one (two rows of 5-6 pedals). Where the Nomad differs/excels is that the power output options are: 3x 9vlt with 600ma shared, 4x 9vlt with 2000ma shared and 2x 12vlt with 1000ma shared..no USB. There is an older version with a removable battery and lower output spec...don't get that one. You can definitely deal with a few digital pedals with the Nomad. I can get my Boss RC-600 and/or the GT-1000core powered from this, with power headroom to spare.Β  RE: Your "hum issue"...did you use the external PSU? The big sell of a battery powered pedal board, is (supposed to be) no AC hum. I bought the Mission Engineering 529i for this.Β  If you have a pedal that wants more than 500ma, and that's the limit of your power supply, I have had good luck with the ENGL Power Tap. It'll take USB or pedal power supply and output 9vlt up to 800ma. I did not have as much luck with the Mission Engineering 529M (the chassis holds screws and the circuit is in the garbage). RE: "USB Port...why?" Check out MyVolts RipCords...there is most likely a solution to power your biggest "biggest jerk of pedal powering" with one of their solutions. I'm not trying to preach or come across like "I know"....I've been fighting some stiff power battles as of late, across various guitar effect and table top synth-on-a-pedal board power supply issues. Just chiming in with what I've found thus far. Thanks for the video...I wouldn't use a solution like this for my main pedal board either, but they are great for a secondary board, a tester board or a travel board.

Is that the Spirit in the Sky where you had the Fuzz Assumption? I have two: the original one and the glow in the dark one. Heather's stuff kicks!
  • @tonyevans9999
I think that overall it stood up ok, but I have found over the journey that skimping on power supply especially leads to heart ache and sadness, and failures always at the worst possible time. Even with my modest pedal needs I still have specific pedal power requirements to run a couple of old Boss pedals (sniffs champagne cork) for eg, or at least one 18v for an electric mistress clone... oh no... I'm in the rabbithole.
