He’s not dismissing aikido, he’s saying to just keep the techniques simple. Peace
  • "Keep it simple". These are the words of someone with experience and wisdom.

Imagine this guy teaching different techniques for street fights, while actually fighting random pedestrians

I learnt aikido for 4 years before moving out to university. With my small experience, I can say that aikido doesn't make you a fighter but as judo it make you aware of body placement and how to use your weight and the weight of your opponent to help you. It also learns you how to fall, and that is a skill that's very useful in life in general !
  • I love your channel and how you keep it real. Been a while since I practiced myself, but your straightforwardness is so awesome!.

"Defend yourself and your opponent." Street Aikido: "Frak that, take 'em down ASAP."
  • I read through most of the comments here. Many miss the point. Street fights are very chaotic to say the least. For the time the gentleman invested making this video, He's simply giving some basic ideas perhaps for someone not so knowledgeable about the subject, and giving them a place to start in their training. I thought it was very applicable, and very well explained.

Instruct unclear, got hit with the belt by my dad and kicked out my house

Conserving energy makes perfect sense in a fight.

My Aikido will fail probably because I don't know Aikido

I've always believed the formality of martial arts training must be modified and adapted to the environment you find yourself in.

In other words, you just need common sense for aikido to work on the streets, it's like Bruce Lee said: be like water, that means you have to use your brain to adapt and respond to whatever the opponent is doing
  • @leexag
I thought in America you should always assume that your opponent has a gun

I practice Aikido every day...like when I tell my son Ai Kiddo go make your bed
  • When I was younger, and leaving elementary school and into H.S., I was studying Kenpo Karate. An older guy, that used to study at the school I went to, used to always participate in tournaments, and do well, gave me advice that has stuck with me to this day "Where the head goes, so goes the body." Everything he did, focused on controlling his opponents head, and it made everything else fall into place.

I trained aikido for 7 years, I admit some of the moves are complex but it’s definitely given me some great fundamentals, 10 years later, I still remember so many of the moves and key components. Great video
