I mainly shoot on manual mode, drop the ISO into auto, set the exposure compensation to -2/3 to protect some highlights, put shutter speed on the thumb dial (usually keep it at 120 as starting point), set aperture to the front dial (usually keep it at f11 as starting point)… off you go 👍

Awesome video! I finally found a dedicated S5ii photography content and I feel so much better about keeping this camera
  • @shaonmaji3161
Just bought S5ii and already puzzled with the functionalities. Kindly keep on posting videos. Theres a lot to learn.
  • I've been using Panasonics for video and Canon for stills, but once the S5 IIX came out, I decided to have this hybrid camera cover both -- since I am increasingly being asked to do both stills and video these days. Thanks so much, Paul. Aperture priority is the way I mainly shoot, so you've given me a lot of confidence this new Lumix camera will make my life even easier. And like you, unless I'm shooting sports, I'm aperture-based. Thanks for the video.
  • I mainly shoot in manual mode on my S5II in RAW with flat profile so it is easier to adjust and less contrasty to start with. When shooting macro, especially with moving insects like butterflies and dragonflies, I use manual aperture, auto shutter and auto ISO.
  • @ReiDoesIt
I'm usually shooting with Aparture priority, but with set minimum Shutter Speed so that if the light gets low the ISO is boosted not Shutter Speed dropped. And I do shoot RAW. Awesome video as always 🎉

Nice video - one question - what cage are you using? They seem like a good idea given how many controls there are on the camera.
  • @AoyagiAichou
When it comes to RAW and colours, if you work in Lightroom, it has camera matching profiles (instead of "Adobe Standard") - i.e. you can still give your RAW the Panasonic Natural colour treatment you get in JPEGs without sacrificing the flexibility of RAWs, should you want it. Possibly useful even when you use JPEGs but need to do a bit heavier editing on one or two of them (major exposure changes or whatever) - you can then do that on RAWs (assuming you shoot RAW+JPG like most). Oh and I use aperture priority most of the time as well, with minimum shutter speed 1/60. Shutter priority or full manual for sports, yeah. Common practice I think.

great video! I use the M mode only for lightning photography :)
  • Hey Paul. From all the YouTubers I've seen so far I think you're the right person to ask. So I just bought a Lumix S5 and I've been using it on two short occasions only so far. I'm coming from a m43 system Lumix G7 to be exact. I've noticed that my S5 is slightly getting warm on the bottom of the camera just from taking few snaps and messing around in menu settings for like 10 to 15min. I haven't recorded any videos not did I have had it overheating and turning off, it's just very surprising to me that I can feel it's warm so quickly compared to my old camera that never ever got warm at all as far as I remember. Is it normal in case of a bigger gear with more power drainage to to processor etc? I would really appreciate to find out if this is something "normal". it's not hot like an older smartphone after a heavy use, but it's more comparable to a hot Latina in July😅😂

I shoot M with auto iso and auto wb, works a dream, but then I shoot Nikon and its metering is excellent.
  • @jtes1442
At the studio and landscape M mode, street and travel A mode. I'm new to Lumix. Is there a way to reverse the exposure indicator? Thank you for your video.
  • @heymofo1981
ya manual with auto iso works well for me but i am going to try the A mode after this see what happens
  • @MailTelegraphTV
I was trained to use full manual mode. Just M. So never shot anything else. Only thing I do when pressed for time is put auto iso
  • Hi Paul. Thank you for the video. I recently purchased Lumix S5 and there is one very annoying thing. When I use monitor and shutter speed is slow there is a terrible motion blur on the screen. I set monitor fps to 60fps which is the highest. I used Canon in the past and never came across such issues. Is this something normal with this camera?
