Cats also have a fantastic memory of those they love. I have a friend who had two feral cats who were afraid of everyone. I once cat sitted for her when she was gone for a month. The cats got used to me because I fed them. Many years later, after a long absence, I went to visit my friend. We were talking in the kitchen. Upon, hearing my voice, the cats came running to greet me. They don’t forget.

I remember when my cat Dottie died, I made sure that my cat Chester was aware. It may sound strange but I made an effort to show him her in her box/coffin. He understood the situation. If I remember correctly he nudged his head to her and then me. But I know that within the next few hours he had brought me a dead bird. I knew it was his way of trying to make me feel better and express sympathy.
  • When I had a pulmonary embolism a few years ago and got home from the hospital, the first thing i did was go lie down on my bed. My beloved cat, Zen, hopped up on the bed and i was worried for a moment that she would crawl up on my chest, as she sometimes did when i first laid down. But she knew that there was something not right about me, so she nestled herself between my body and my left arm, and then she started purring and her paw came up and rested on my chest, and she just sat there and purred. I miss her terribly.

First cat I had was a ragdoll. She would slow blink at me and when I mimicked her, she would roll over. She was such a loving baby.

My cat is now 4 years old. He was given to me when he was 5 weeks old because my husband died of cancer in 2018. I love this cat so much. He Loves me in return. He is always rubbing his head and cheeks on my face. He also always licks me then gives me little bites on my hands. What He plays with me he hits my face with his, paws but never with his claws. I am blessed to have such a darling little cat in my life. He actually sleeps in my arms every night and what He needs to stretch his little body to get comfortable he hopes on a certain part often bed and skewers there all night. He is so affectionate towards me I treat him like my little baby. I do not know what I would do without him in my life. and was a gift to me

I know from experience that cats respond to human emotions. When I'm in a good mood and things are calm, they are relaxed and want to hangout , when I'm angry they steer clear and when I'm grieving over someone I love, they stick very close like they're trying to comfort you. Having had 15 cats in the last 30+ years, I can attest to the fact that they are highly intuitive and form lasting bonds with you while maintaining their independence. Such fascinating and wonderful, and might I add underappreciated, creatures.

The special moments with my kitty are never missed. In fact, I can't go to the bathroom without her pushing the door open and walking in, only to walk right back out. 😮

Our indoor cat is so cuddly that she lays next to me and deliberately drapes her tail over my arm. If your cat "hugs" you with his tail, it is kitty cat affection of the highest degree.
  • I miss my girl so much. She checked pretty much all these boxes and I don't know if I'll ever have a cat like her again.

I've burst into tears several times in front of my kitty, for various reasons, and I've gotten the impression that she's confused and I've apologized...not sure how much she understands, though. She does understand her name :).

i just adopted a cat a week ago. She started to behave like a naughty cat since yesterday and I m so happy. She is so happy n relaxed now in her new home :)

Cats absolutely respond - and respond appropriately, to human emotions. Provided they have a connection with that human - sometimes it doesn't even take long. It just takes attentiveness - pay attention to them like you would a human you liked and they'll probably respond to it in noticeable ways.

I have high-functioning autism and my cat shows a lot of affection to me.

When you want a cat, put yourself in a situation where the cat picks you. Sit or lay on the floor or ground and see what happens, Whisper sweet nonsense and slow blink. Talk gently and smile. Put out food if they are colony cats. The cat or kitten that wants to come home with you will let you know. A hint: if a bonded pair both show interest, take the two -- they and you can be very happy together (there is more than enough love to go around)!!!! BTW, you will know a bonded pair if they just seem "together" - you will know. Love, peace.
  • @msarzo
I didn't realize "love bites" were a sign of affection until years after our last cat died. 😢
  • @SybilKibble
When my cat (or other cat) shows me their tail, I gently pet it. Cats sniff each others' bums as a greetings so as a hoomin I pet the tail as a hello and goodbye. They seem to like it.

My kitten is laid up on me right now knocked out. Lol He's been sleeping on my chest last 3 hrs. He checks all these boxes. I love him so much. He's my first ever cat. I've had him a month now, but we bonded the second I met him at the shelter. ❤❤
