AS OF VERSION 25 UPDATE AND UP ON QUEST THIS NO LONGER SEEMS TO WORK. IT SEEMS TO RESULT IN SOME WEIRD THINGS. On the earlier versions, after further testing in more games and more complex maps in beat saber I would say leave the higher resolutions for simple tasks for example watching movies or browsing the web since frame rate seems to drop in more intense games. However you can still use the lower resolutions that are still higher than your base resolution and they seem to work just fine. Find whatever works for you ♥️
  • @Skadidd
Just connect it to your android phone... Sent from: My Iphone
  • Listen up! You can type in any resolution you want, as long as it is divisible by 32! Do this to perfectly optimize the resolution for each game. Also, upvote this so others can see.
  • Myst you should do a frame rate comparison @ different resolutions so people know the "sweet spot" of performance and image quality, congrats on the channel!
  • @BenPMcConnell
I made all the changed in sidequest and it blew my mind how amazing the quality looked! Such a huge difference! Thank you

me: doesn't even have a Oculus Quest 2 also me: Yes i need to know that.

For anyone who wants a bit of info on this... here is a short essay of basically what is happening. The quest 2 has a resolution of 1920p on each eye. This value that you are imputing essentially runs the software at 3072p, which is more than 4K, and then is pushed through the lower resolution screen, which doing so improves the perceived resolution, like how running pc games at 4k on a 1080p monitor looks better than running it at the native 1080p. This will come with a considerable performance penalty since running beat saber at greater than 4K is harder than running it at 1920p. What about the dangers? Well, there aren’t really any if all this code does is change the render resolution of the headset, although since it is, expect higher battery consumption and more heat coming from the XR2 SOC as a trade off. If your into programming your quest and trying it out, go ahead, although I’d say if it ain’t broke, don’t fiddle with it.

Duuuude! That took me by surprise! Great video. I love your neat tricks when it comes to Quest stuff no one else seems to do that kind of thing. And yeah I'd go with Yayger :)
  • @jw7061
This is amazing, played the patched Quest 2 version of Superhot at 2560x2560, it lagged a bit in the menu area but it was absolutely fine in game, the visuals were ultra crisp.
  • @rtsstream
ive been telling everyone to go into sidequest and change the texture resolution to 2048,...life changing
  • This is literally perfect, this is exactly what I've been waiting for. Everything in vr chat is so bad looking
  • When you do this method, will you have to run the commands every time you turn your quest on?
  • @Manuel-cl1pi
I was already pretty stoked with the quest 2 being my first VR headset to begin with, but just tried this and I can say that this is beyond bonkers, you just made my day

yawns Looks at phone “ Oculus Quest 2 Resolution Upgrade - No PC Needed!” Me: I DON’T NEED SLEEP!!! I NEED ANSWERS!!!!!
  • @Johncaig7279
Why am I seeing no resolution improvements at all on my ocular quest 2 after updating the software to v49. I have also run SideQuest on my PC and connected via the bespoken cable and tried to improve the resolution etc, but again to no avail. I do know the connection is successful as I have been able to remove the need for a guardian. Yes, I have cleaned the lens and all the rest of the requirements etc etc. Can you help me, Please?

October 2021 update: The smartphone method still kind of works, but you need to set up a developer account to enable USB Debugging in Oculus Quest 2 first (look for it in the Oculus website) and then enable USB Debugging via the smartphone app. Only then will bugjaeger be able to connect to the Quest 2. Sadly, changing my resolution to 2560x2560 this way bugged the display: I could only see the top upper left quadrant of the screen (but the textures were much crisper). Setting it to 128x128 now seems to completely break the display. And alas, after restarting the headset resolutions come back to default anyway.
  • @lordofudead
Id love to see how this goes in game, Half Life Alyx through VD with this resolution boost will be insane!
  • @roguevector7823
Before I do this with my phone it won’t mess up my oculus will it or make it get hot or anything just wanting to find out before hand
  • @dillacorn_linux
3072 res is now in Sidequest settings! I think 1536 is a good balance for performance + battery life though.
