I like how they have bizarre branching evolutions like old Digimon pets "Godzilla digivolve to .... Chubby Tyranno-Godzilla!'

Fun Fact: The Mothra & Godzilla sprites created for the Mothra Tamagotchi would later be reused in Tamagotchi's sibling series Digimon as the sprites for Flymon & Tyrannomon respectively. Later on, Digital Monster Ver. 5 v-pet would feature new Digimon based on Heisei Godzilla, Gigan, SpaceGodzilla, Destoroyah, Ghidorah, Hedorah, & even Burning Godzilla! Though, when these Digimon got official art, they were given redesigns for obvious reasons. E.g. Devidramon & Cyclomon look nothing like Destoroyah & Gigan, respectively.

When I was young I was mortified by the idea of a virtual pet specifically because they could die if not taken care of indefinitely. Seeing it with Godzilla, a character who has been killed only to pop up again next week, puts it in a humorous light.

Lol I had the heisei trendmasters version of the Godzilla virtual pet which had a black egg. I was so proud that my Godzilla got so big and strong after I took really good care of it for like a month. Then one day I dropped it and the batteries flew out and all my progress was lost. I lost all my motivation to continue with the virtual pet after that. When I was older I got a few of the Digimon ones but could never get my digimon to digivolve into anything cool
