You've helped me realize I need to focus on elevated lounge wear and jeans, tee shirts, casual sweaters. That's the reality of what I wear in my retired life living in a mountain outdoorsy community. I'm working on phasing out the "maybe I'll have lots of fancy dinners out" shopping. I have a pair of faux leather pants that are frankly as dressy as it's gonna get! I've been getting compliments that I look put-together and fashionable even in my sweats! Thanks to you they are mostly off-white, beige and navy. I add my white sneakers or lug Chelsea boots, jewelry and a cute off white beanie or baseball cap, throw on my beige puffer jacket and out I go! 💜

Absolutely the best video I have seen on this subject. Such a relief to know I can stop searching for the perfect blazer and black trousers which everyone else insists I need but would never fit in with my lifestyle! I am feeling inspired to dive in to my wardrobe and add a few more pale neutrals first then fine-tune the shoe collection 😂. Thank you Melissa, you are an inspiration xx

You have given me the ability to actually envision myself putting together a capsule wardrobe! Thank you! You're a wonderful speaker and teacher of essential topics! ❤

Wow! BRAVO 👏The absoltue best info about a capsule wardrobe I've ever read about or seen a video on! I love how you broke it down and emphasized how it should be suitable to our lifestile. I've been working with capsule wardrobes for a few years now by season, since I live in an area with 4 seasons. I still struggled when making decisions and buys for that capsule. I've even bought workbooks to help me! Watching this finally made it click together. Gosh you are just the best. If I could afford you I'd buy your services and all your clothing recommendations, so these free videos are invaluable to me! Thank you so MUCH! Can't wait to watch more from you!

This is THE best video on building a capsule wardrobe I have ever watched. The way you describe everything so clearly makes it so much more doable. Thank you so much. I'm currently binge watching all your other videos too.

Dear Melissa, I’ve been watching your videos for a couple of years and never miss one. For some reason though I’ve still not been able to translate this to my life despite how clear your instructions are. I’m one of those people who walks into a shop and feels instantly overwhelmed, not knowing where to start so I just end up leaving with nothing and ultimately getting nowhere. I feel such dread when I try to shop for clothes and I know it’s an activity that is actually supposed to be fun! As someone who needs to probably replace 90% of my wardrobe and desperate to look put together, I was wondering if you’d consider doing a video on shopping strategies? How and where does one even begin when you feel like to need to start from the beginning? All the best! ❤
  • This is by far the best video I've seen on creating a capsule wardrobe. It makes total sense and is so simple to follow. This weekend I'm going to do a deep dive of my closet, calculate the percentage and types of clothes needed for me, and then make a plan to fill in the gaps for completing my capsule wardrobe. Thanks so much for this!

Wow!!!! I have never thought about the light white/cream neutral in different weights and just swapping them 🤯! Genius!!

I retired in 2018 and for several years my wardrobe was full of things i wore to work, smart outfits, business suits and dresses etc. My everyday clothes were crammed in. I realised how silly it was to keep all that workwear. I wasn't going to business meetings or into the office in the City. I felt bad as a lot had been quite expensive. But I saw one of your earlier videos on capaule wardrobes, and I let them go (first charity bag over 80 items and barely made a dent!) and felt seriously relieved. I started to think about dressing for my new life. I have drifted but mainly buying mire than I need as cheering up treats and to be honest a bit of boredom. So this video is such a good reminder. The charity bag eill be making another appearance......😅

The timing of this video couldn’t be more perfect. I spent literally all day yesterday cleaning out more than a decade of clothes, being pretty ruthless. I know I’ve kept some things I shouldn’t and still have too much, but maybe in another month or so, I’ll go through again. I’m fair skinned, freckled, with pink undertones and I always avoid whites, which became evident when I sorted by color after watching this. I have some cream but clearly not enough and most are loose patterns to bring in peaches and browns! Perimenopause has made me a lot curvier in the last few months so I’m going to help myself feel better by shopping for a wardrobe of basics that will flatter my new shape, with help from your videos. Thank you! P.S. I decided that the best justification for getting rid of the “I might fit in that again one day” clothes is that if I do lose weight, that’s a reason to go shopping for new items later and update anything that might be showing its age!

You have really helped me over the last couple of years to curate my wardrobe. I mostly wear casual clothes and most of the time nobody really sees me in my everyday clothes but my family. Mi am a full time caregiver to one of my children. What I had a hard time with is outfits for special occasions and when I get a week off and go out of town. I felt I had nothing to wear and the. Reality was I didn’t. I had a mix of things I had purchased over the years that didn’t really go together or didn’t fit anymore. So if something came up I would have to run out and buy something and I would grab whatever fit and then it wouldn’t be worn again and probably didn’t go with anything else I had. The hardest part has been I’m in my early 50’s and about 99% of the time I am having a hot flash and wish I wasn’t wearing anything. 😂. Because of you and your videos I have a better understanding of how to fit my changing body and what will work for me and what won’t. I now have four pairs of neutral slacks of different fabric weights for the different seasons. I have long sleeved and short sleeved neutral tops of different fabrics for the different seasons. I am still working on my shoes. For the most part I am in my running shoes. 😂. Sorry for my rambling I just want to say thank you for all of your great tips and information. I felt clueless about fashion for the last ten years and you have made me feel more confident. 🤗💜🫶🏻😃
  • So glad to hear you talk about 'you must have a white shirt'. I hate a white shirt! You can guarantee as soon as I put it on, it will get marked somehow, and I have no idea how! I cook a lot and although I wear an apron, I still end up with spots and splashes, no matter how careful I am.
  • No-one else can do these styling videos as good as you Melissa!! Its such good advice. Happy new Year to you, Monty and the gang! Thank you

Oh Melissa you're incredible, I loved loved loved this. I've saved a few of your videos but this one will be one I refer to forever! Years ago I was so conditioned to think I can't buy another top in that colour as I already have one but what you have taught me and all of us makes so much sense and it's put across so well. You're right, all the 'influencers' tell you the exact items u should have in your capsule wardrobe and that is not the right way to approach it. I've had 3 massive clearouts since lockdown and I still could chuck out 90% of my clothes and not miss them. I really want 2024 to finally be the year I sort myself out 😆. Sorry for the long comment but thank you so so much for what you do on here, you give me & all of us hope xx
  • Thank you so much Melissa, I’ve watched so many capsule wardrobe videos but only just now have I realised I’m buying stuff for a fictional life that I don’t lead! I work from home and live in a rural village so it needs to be smart casual comfy. If we do go out it’s to eat or for drinks in a local pub. I need maybe 3% of very smart outfits for the very occasional fancy meal ! You’ve really helped me to move in the right direction going forward, can’t wait to get started x
  • @bexh2012
Incredibly helpful, thank you! Here's to a stylish 2024!
  • This is the best explanation for a capsule wardrobe I have seen. I have always loved neutrals and now understand how important it is to have a variety of clothes in the same colour waive that will mix and match. Can’t wait to declutter my wardrobe. Thank you Melissa, looking forward to watching all your videos
  • @jaqmackie
Loved this one. So clearly explained. Thank you.
