Billy recently bought 200 guitars for all the kids in the elementary school in his hometown here in Michigan. Big heart...big talent.

After 77 years, that guitar finally made it into the right hands.

Billy I hope you hang on to that wonderful down-home spirit. You are beyond crazy when it comes to pickin, but your easy-going nature is what sets you apart!

When I was aboard ship in the Navy early 70's I was able to play a 45 D-28 for several months. Never felt or heard anything like it since.

Not all vintage Martin Guitars are the same— there’s usually a Gem that just has it all going on. That 44’ is one of them. Same goes with Loar’ F-5 Mandolins. Ive seen this occur with 1960’s Martins or any Vintage Factory Instrument. I could tell -with just my cell I -phone speakers as soon as Billy started picking that Gem. I’d love to sit in room and compare that 44’ D-28 to the Brazillian’ D-28 style I crafted in 1991’.
  • What a canon. It’s so rare for a guitar to project that much yet have every note be so clear.
  • Hi Billy! WOW your new holy grail D-28 sounds so full, both lows and highs. Love the sustain too. Hope to see you play her on stage soon. Love and blessings from Michigan.

  • @zororosario
Total respect sweet sounds 👍🎸 Cheers Billy. Thanks
  • Martin had to let most of their luthiers go during the war years, due to sales going way down, but they kept their most talented luthiers, resulting in some of their best guitars ever, like this one!

My family has a 44 Martin D-28 and 1950 which belonged to my Grandfather who was a tobacconist / seller of cigars . His guitars , mandolins and other musical instruments are still kept in his humidity and temp controlled tobacco room to this day. Thanks for this video and all the best.
