  • I have researched his art for over 25 years... Jean Michel Basquiat is the first afro-latino self-taught art star in the so-called outsider art movement. A high school drop-out turned a worldwide sensation is certainly an incredible phenomenon. He did what Paul Klee, Pablo Picasso, and Wassily Kandinsky in emulating child-like art. In my opinion, he created a very unique urbanized language strictly his own... an original. Very few artists today can be that an original voice, Basquiat is that.

I appreciate his work. I’m a self taught artist. During art basel Miami 2010 my first painting sold for 8k, I hadn’t looked back
  • Fun fact The Weeknd was inspired by his hair style that's why through out some time he rocked the whole "Palm tree" look until late 2016 when he cut it off for the starboy cover of his album

@2:08 That is not Basquiat's mother. His father remarried and his biological mother whom Basquiat would visit frequently was admitted into a mental hospital. My art instructor in college made the mistake of saying his mother was white. I was quick to correct her. His mother is a black woman from Puerto Rico.

His art is sensational, and has stood the test of time because you can see the pain that we all feel, in a perspective that captures his unique angle of sight. I looks like he is visiting a different dimension that we cant see but is definitely there.
  • @creativeeyeguy
His details are so vivid and electric, u naturally gravitate to things. Uniquely him and authentic craft
  • He was a rockstar iconic legend in the art world. RIP Jean Michel Basquiat 🙏😇❤
  • @Cragzop123
he captured the zeitgeist of nyc. there was magic in the air, and despite the media's depiction of the city as sodom, it was never so vibrant and creative, and hasn't been since. i miss those days and now realize how special they were...jmb was a product of all that energy and was smart enough to tap into it...we lost him way to early, but then he wouldn't have been jmb if we didn't...
  • lol "15 Things You Didn’t Know About Jean Michel Basquiat" ...I love how you list all the things that he is most known for. :D
  • @GreenOrchid9
Self taught and never to be compromised, basquiat forever🕯🎨🦄
  • His work seemed like a child could do it but at a closer look, there were so many layers to his paintings. His work was an organized chaos.
  • @Pro-habits
Basquait is a legend his ART will live forever
  • @wealthyson5920
J.M BASQUIAT, THANKS FOR BEING REVOLUTIONARY 🔥🇭🇹💪🏽LONG LIVE THE 👑
  • @TTT-1961.
I have studied Basquiat for years. I have to admit, you did a fine job in this video in capturing interesting and disparate facts about him, plus the images are excellent. This is quality work.
  • His work stands the test of time because his impressionism speaks of truth about our history.

god dammit it isn't, " pray for soup!!" it is, "pay for soup_ build a fort_set that on fire."... It was a play on a things to do list.. and it was brilliant in it's conceptualization...about being on the street, being poor on the street, he got soup on a loan and had to still pay for it... so get it right.. Basquiat was like carvaggio in that way he ran on the street
