In the first book of this brilliant series, Stephen King introduces readers to one of his most enigmatic heroes, Roland of Gilead. The Last Gunslinger. He is a haunting figure, a loner on a spellbinding journey into good and evil. In his desolate world, which frighteningly mirrors our own, Roland pursues The Man in Black, encounters an alluring woman named Alice, and begins a friendship with the Kid from Earth called Jake. Both grippingly realistic and eerily dreamlike, The Gunslinger leaves readers eagerly awaiting the next chapter.
Set in a world of extraordinary circumstances, filled with stunning visual imagery and unforgettable characters. The Dark Tower series is unlike anything you've ever read. Here is Stephen King's most visionary piece of storytelling, a magical mix of fantasy and horror that may well be his crowning achievement.

Its the weirdest feeling i know, that kindred feeling you get, like a secret adventure only you and yours know ,feels so personal, yet so public. Started when i was 14,my Father passed when i was 13,i had to complete his walk to the Tower,i finished it,then joined the army, Im now 40 and listening to this makes me remember, my Fathers face.

I read this and Drawing of the Three when I was a very sheltered 14or 15 year old. I was out of my depth completely..lol it was 88 or 89. I found Anne Rice a couple years after. My taste in books was set early in life. I'm now, at age 51, reading the dark tower series in full. It's fantastic I feel like a kid again!!!
