  • the "What am I fighting for" scene is incredible because it's genuinely an emotional moment that's undercut in the most hilarious way by the voice acting. You can tell the writers knew it mattered cause it gets referenced in Zero's most climactic moment, the ending of MMZ4

"perfection is more about the experience than it is the flaw count" more critics need to hear this
  • @PretzTrigger
I enjoyed how X and Zero had radically different theme songs myself. X sounded more desperate and urgent and Zero's sounded more no nonsense

I think the biggest issue with X series story is that it has a lot of cool and interesting ideas that are either lost in translation, are kinda vague, or have poor execution. It’s one of the reasons I’m so disappointed that the maverick hunter X series didn’t continue since we could have finally gotten a solid narrative for the X series.
  • Being able to finally truly play as Zero throughout the entire game was so cool. X4 is easily my favorite Megaman game alongside X5, X8 and Zero3.

14:10 They might not have intuitive button combinations for X, but something that not enough people talk about is that X4 introduced the next best thing to the X series: having separate buttons for the buster and special weapons. That way you can still have a special weapon ready while using the buster.

Not gonna lie, when I play the MMX games on my own time, I usually just bind one of the buttons on my controller to the emulator's fast forward feature so that I could speed by the boss rushes.

I still miss those manually drawed anime-cutscenes from MMX4 by this day. This visual style holds something really special from the 90ths anime. No other games since MMX4 used something like this for some reason, and prerenders from MMX7/8 cannot compete with MMX4 cutscenes at all. Such a loss.

I've always put Megaman with no space since it feels weird when writing or typing it Mega Man it feels off the same as putting the dash between Spiderman

30:56 "yea you started this conversation" lmaooo This will forever be my favorite X game
  • The transition from x intro stage to slash beast stage sounds so good.

2:38 fun fact: Spider-man hates it when people misspell his name because it lowers his google search score.

I love the characterisation in the Split Mushroom fight. It's a spin off of the concept of eating random mushrooms would make you go on a massive trip, Split Mushroom really gives you that feeling of "WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON ???!" but to be honest, it's really not that hard. It just LOOKS hectic with all the bullshit going on which'll cause you to make a stupid panic mistake, but it's all fake. Just stay calm and you win (all of this assuming you're not using his weakness)
  • X4 is my favorite of the X series. I appreciate the attempt at story telling and playing as Zero in particular is really fun to play as. The ability to play in virtually any stage order helps a lot as backtracking is very minimal. I know u can play stages in any order in X games but when replaying them u almost need to play in specific order. Anyone who's played X1 a few times always goes to Chill Penguin's stage first

Ngl, these reviews really got me interested in the x franchise. I used to really suck at them but actually replaying them & learning the level design & boss pattern has really made me found a new appreciation for some of these games. Learning about least backtracking routes was really enjoyable too. It a weird way these reviews taught me these games aren’t as hard as I thought they were back then. You iust need to what your doing

The Legacy Collection on GameCube also included updated dub work on X4. While the in-game sound effects were the same, they did a complete rewrite and re-dub of the English script and it reads far better.
  • Don't know why the English localisation flip flops between Mega Man and Megaman but I always spell it as Mega Man, as that's how the Robot Master naming convention is set up for the likes of Elec Man, Metal Man, Snake Man, Pharaoh Man etc. On the subject of X4, this was THE game that I was the most excited about when the XLCs were revealed, and despite getting my ass handed to me a few times when I first played it, it quickly became my favourite X game, as well as one of two games that fight for the honour of my favourite Mega Man game in general, the other being Zero 3. The Fourth Armour and Zero's gameplay alone elevate it above X1 for me, but the package as a whole is nothing short of excellent, story/translation problems notwithstanding.
