The Super Mario Bros. Movie just got its first clip revealed at The Game Awards. In this new clip for The Super Mario Bros. Movie, Toad introduces Mario to the cinematic version of The Mushroom Kingdom. There's countless references to past Mario games and a ton to look forward to!

Nintendo and Illumination are doing everything they can to keep The Super Mario Bros. Movie faithful to the original games. This means throwing in references to the classics (both in easter eggs and in the movie's soundtrack), pleasing fans who have been with the series since the beginning. Does this Mushroom Kingdom clip give more hope for Mario's animated movie?

  • I just loved how they made all the weird environments of the game work in the movie. The pipes and floating platforms we see in the games are the architecture and methods of transportation in the Mushroom Kingdom. They fixed the one issue most video game movies have.

Fun fact about the composer, Brian Tyler. This will be his first score for an animated movie, and it’s showing potential. I hope the climax piece between Mario and Bowser has letimofs of various final boss themes.

i absolutely love how offended mario looks when toad yells about luigi going to die its so insane how good this movie actually looks; the music alone can give chills which is weird because its dang super mario themes

I can see why Nintendo trusted Illumination to make this. The animation looks evolved.

I am so happy that Brian Tyler is in on the Movie’s soundtrack. He KILLED it with Transformers Prime’s OST.
  • The more I watch the official Mario Movie trailers and clips, the more I'm like, "Why were we mad about Chris Pratt's voice again?"
  • Im hyped to see this movie. Ima purchase a ticket in my mario costume and be like “let’s a go !”

I have a feeling this movie is literally going to destroy the box office. It's soundtrack is composed amazingly, and it's clear they worked really hard on the world of Mario we love and know. If you're reading this Nintendo/Illumination, GREAT WORK! I'M SO EXCITED FOR THIS MOVIE!
  • I really love how Chris Pratt is actually doing a great job as Mario in the clip.
  • Everything about this clip is incredible, like the music, the pipes, & the humor in this movie, definitely excited to see the Mario Kart scene.

You also gotta give credit to Koji Kondo as well as Brian Tyler. It was a cooperative venture between the two of them. Tyler may get all the credit, but Mr. Kondo is helping him along the way.

Something I’d like to mention is that when I showed my mother this clip, she only could tell Mario was Chris Pratt because she knew before watching it. Without that context, she wouldn’t have known Chris Pratt was voicing Mario. Does anyone else feel after watching this that the performance sounds a bit better than what we heard previously?
  • Every Animation Studio is great at SOMETHING to keep them around. Illumination's strength is the ability to make visually chaotic crowds in their movies without resorting to blurry the area around the picture. There's a reason the Minions are their mascot. Not only because they're the icon for their first and biggest franchise, but they represent how strong they are at animating crowds without resorting to copy and pasting. In a movie where Bowser, Peach, The Kongs, The Yoshi, and technically the Penguins each have their own slightly unique troops. Illumination actually WAS the perfect Animation Studio to produce this movie.

First Sonic and now Mario, this is beyond great.

This clip gives me a lot of hope for this movie

This movie is shaping up to by way WAY better than any of us were probably expecting, and I love it.

The amount of game music references in the soundtrack is insane I thought I was watching a fan reupload but then realized it was the official video

I’m really digging the vibe of this movie. Aesthetically speaking, the visuals really bring in the immersion. Heck, from that clip alone, I noticed a lot of references to Mario Games old & new from the get-go. 🍄
