Hours before Thomas Matthew Crooks tried to kill former President Donald Trump, his family tried to call the cops, federal sources say, which confirms the shooter’s family reported him missing on Saturday before the former president’s rally.

Crooks' parents are cooperating with FBI investigators as the agency tries to specify a motive for the shooting that injured Trump and killed rally attendee Corey Comperatore.

Officials completed a vetting of Crooks' phone and social media accounts, but have yet to publicize the results of that probe.

They knew. You don’t just report an adult missing that soon.

Reporting a 20 year old adult as missing after he's been gone for a few hours in broad daylight makes absolute sense and isn't suspicious whatsoever. Nor is any other thing suspicious about this case.

It simply baffles me why the parents of a 20-year-old man would report him missing after only a few hours unless he was disabled or they were reporting him "missing" as a way to give the police a head's up about him without actually telling them that he was up to no good.
  • @justaguy-69
so lets hear the ENTIRE CALL and what the parents REALLY said to police ... bet that never happens.

worried about a 20 year old not coming back for supper lol thats a first!
  • So, the Parents story is changing.....first story from secret service is that the son asked his father if he could use his rifle and go target practicing" and the father let him take the gun.....so, why would they report him missing in a couple of hours? Secret service also said, that they saw him at the rally, followed him round, "lost him" in the crowd after about 30 minutes..... Can we say "Totally inept secret service"? IF they were watching the guy...why was trump allowed on stage?

Wow! What the! Incompetence? No defined protocol to the Secret Service? Very doubtful!

Looks like security was told to stand down

So to be fair, he left his parent's home early that morning saying he was going to the shooting range, borrowing his father's rifle. This is something he likely would have done many times in the past. Now, you can only spend so much time at the range; you eventually run out of ammo. It's not that surprising for parents to be concerned for their 20 year old son after he's been gone at a shooting range for 4+ hours, especially if he's not answering calls. They could be worried that an accident happened at the range. They may have called the range after a few hours and asked if he's ok (small town, everyone kinda knows each other), and gotten worried if someone told them he never showed up. etc.

This makes no sense. Other reports say parents called pd at 11pm (not before) and before they said the father loaned the son the rifle & knew he was going to the range.
