Man, you don’t know me but I owe a lot to you. Just landed my first Cybersecurity analyst position thanks to your videos and knowledge ( I have no experience either). So from myself and my family thank you.
  • @williammorgan1452
Trust me just do it. I listened and followed his help, landed a 55k job after a career switch and just an A+ cert. This went along with 10 resumes a day for a month and a half. Don’t give up!
  • Every company is different. Keep in mind that you may or may not need a cert for a job. Some companies may ask for experience, a degree, a cert or something else. One key thing that will help you stand out is using the power of LinkedIn and network the hell out of people. Networking plays a big part in getting a job to bypass the ats system.

Some great tips. I especially like the bit about HomeLabs - they're a great way to take control of your own destiny. Some IT people don't want to touch technology outside of their job and I understand the desire to leave work at work; but it also means their experience is entirely dependent on what their employer chooses to give them. If they are given menial tasks or their employer is the type to keep riding obsolete tech into the ground they end up stuck without marketable skills. A HomeLab doesn’t just give you skills and experience – it demonstrates passion and initiative.

There is some fantastic advice in this video for people looking for positions in all fields, not just IT, well done!
  • I've been watching similar videos back to back from sometime and I gotta say yours is true gold. Not only do you advise on projects but how to do them. Not just go a build a website but how to do it. Not just some resume tips but exactly how to make one. Thanks a lot for making this.
  • As an industry pro in IT - I found this helpful on a high level. I am not a "job hopper" - I have long tenures at the companies i have worked at. The hurdle I am encountering now is that all of the positions (in my area of North Texas at least) in my preferred pay scale are contract positions, and most not even contract-to-hire. I need a place to retire from at this point - I remember DOS and dip-switches, that's when I got my A+ lol. The resume info was exactly what I needed to see - I haven't changed my format since the mid-90's (Word was still WordPerfect when I created the original). Seeing what the recruiters and HR are looking for and getting some insight into their headspace hit the nail on the head. Thanks Chuck - rock on sir.

Honestly, being introverted in a market full of extroverts makes it so much harder because we have our own great story to tell, but aren't always the best at explaining especially in an interview process where you're often put on the spot and expected to perform to the same level as perhaps other extroverted people. I think that's where having a homelab or some quantifiable example that can demonstrate you have the chops to perform given the right environment is really helpful. Or having a couple of good professional references that can vouch for the things you've done.
  • @jedp85
Thank you for u're videos, all y're saying is so very true, that is how i switch from my previous profession into IT and now years later i am starting to get a degree and certs on IT mostly to keep up with trends and build what i didn't had at the start. You're vids are a big source of truth and info for a lot o people, myself included. oh and don't quit youtube, we like having you around :D
  • @jserr9682
right down to business, no long unnecessary explanations and repeating him self, This is What IM talking about not waste of time just straight up to it..LOVE IT!!! thank you
  • This video is surely the BEST pratical advice to get the job you want in IT ever shown + giving advice to moving up in your career. And it could be applied to other jobs too. It's common sense, self marketing, and showing the world you exist and want to break through: showing you are alive and kicking while able to do the job by tackling all the obstacles going through. Really awesome. Congratulations Keith.
  • @DGTubbs
I just LOVE your videos. So encouraging and exciting!!! This must be one of THE BEST videos you've ever done! I'm going to go rebuild my resume AND build a website RIGHT NOW! Then I'm going to get started on a few new projects; maybe even build my own home networking lab WITH hardware. I am currently an Account Manager with a security company (Uniformed Services). But my bosses have made me an admin on a few systems. I'm after my Security+ at some point. But I need to start somewhere. Thank you for all you do, brother!!!

This video is HUGE! It can be very discouraging trying to get into IT with everything feeling like an uphill battle. I appreciate you making this video and showing us that it is possible to get into IT with little to no experience. You are amazing Chuck, thank you for making this video and helping those trying to enter the field!
  • @OneC8
I’m from Colombia, spanish is my native language and this was just cristal clear not even the most experience teachers or YouTuber’s have put in so simple words. Chuck, Thank you so much for this valuable content and FREE
  • Your content is amazing. I went to school for IT. They had some really great tips, but you exceeded that ten-fold. You mentioned everything that they did and more. I didn't even know that it was that easy to create your own website. I love how you explain things in your videos. Thank you so much for what you do! I will hack YouTube ,ethically of course, every time you create a new video.
  • Super useful video Chuck, I'm switching careers from finance to tech and I don't really have a lot of experience, so this is really giving me some ideas on how to improve my resume. Thanks!
  • Love you man, you're amazing. you have completely helped me build my career in IT. The BEST CAREER EVER. Vidoes are so .. NOT boring like most the other IT videos out there
  • @johndaarteest
One of the tricks I have heard is to open a separate document and type keywords that you want to stand out, type these over and over again and then copy and paste these into the header and the footer of your resume multiple times, but use a white font color and shrink it down to the smallest font size for your word document application. That way the computer reads it but human eyes can't.
  • Your videos are what I have needed for YEARS! Being a "millennial" who wasnt raised around tech (I was still using a landline rotary phone around 11 to 12 years ago 😅) it has been difficult to try and learn tech all while also taking into account the household I was raised in (my parents didn't graduate h.s. one of which did not go to h.s. at all 😮) but your videos are so detailed yet put so simply to where someone like me who always said "I wish I was smart enough for tech" you are a GODSEND SIR! At first I had no clue about almost all the stuff you talk about in your videos even existed but after stumbling across one of your videos (2 DAYS AGO) after surfing the internet for YEARS, I have been OBSESSED and hooked on watching your videos along with trying some basic stuff out but it's hard to do with an old computer running windows 7 that can't keep an internet connection 😂😅
