I loved the film back then because it was so immersive and felt real. I hope that some creative people try to do the same marketing strategy that Cloverfield did. Nothing hypes an audience more than mystery and a movie perfectly made to delivery a thrilling ride.
  • Honestly Cloverfield has one of the coolest monster designs I’ve ever seen.
  • Can we all acknowledge how JAW-DROPPING the visuals are - and for a film that only had a production cost of $25m-$30m!!!!!

I think, at the very least, this film should be remembered as an absolute beast in advertising and interaction, especially with the expansive ARG leading up to it for people to figure out more about the movie.

Happy 15 Years, Cloverfield. For those looking for a deeper dive into the lore of Cloverfield, I highly recomend looking up Inside A Mind's videos on the films. He does deep dives into the film's marketing and ties everything together quite well

I just watched this movie for the first time today and it is the best cinematic theme park ride I've ever experienced. Just an hour of pure thrills. Even without consuming the marketing this film absolutely works for me

"Why doesn't America have its own iconic monster?" King Kong: Am I a joke to you?
  • this movie was indeed a HELL of a ride in the cinema. the mystique was awesome. i had goosebumps watching this vid lol i've always been a fan of movies that are "different". and it doesn't necessitate complex ideas to make a different movie, as this vid briefly explains.

I do think its a great film. Because it explores an angle that is so under used by monster movies, the people on the ground during an attack, from their perspective.
  • As someone who saw this after 10 cloverfield lane, who missed all the hype and mystery of it coming out, my reaction was: well… that’s was mostly a dumb story with dumb characters, but damn… the visuals and overall visual storytelling was one hell of a ride, and I only saw it on a big tv.

Loved this video! Great work! I remember being a kid in 2007 seeing the 1-18-08 teaser and being both terrified and incredibly intrigued. The following months I spent so much time following the ARG and marketing closely. I have a ton of nostalgia for the movie and I always have a blast watching it. I equate it a theme park ride. It isn't an amazing layered film with a deep plot, BUT it is one hell of thrilling experience that is a feast for the senses. I do admit that part of the enjoyment was being there back in 2007 and 2008, so I can understand why someone jumping into the movie now wouldn't quite like it as much or at all. I'm extremely excited to see how the direct sequel turns out. Happy 15th anniversary Cloverfield!

THIS is what film marketing SHOULD be. Fantastic and taking the imagination on a wild ride. The damn near entire film is shown on ads now. It did what good films do. Stay with you for a good, long while and entertain the hell out of you.

This is genuinely one of my favorite horror movies, I personally think it’s the best PG-13 horror movie ever made. The end of the credits is by far the scariest part to me

I remember watching this for the first time back In January this year, this was legit a movie that genuinely made me scared. Something that not a lot of movies have managed to do for me. This honestly (besides Chronicle) is my favorite found footage movie and the direction was really good. Especially the acting and of course; the monster. That close up towards the end could give anyone chills 😰
  • Cloverfield is the BEST monster movie! I love it! I was in school, so i missed all the viral advertising but saw it in the theatre and have loved it ever since. I'm completely fine with a simple story. What is important in life becomes very simple during times of intense stress/facing death. The last movie I saw with my mom before she passed was this movie bc we both love it so much. I love monster movies in the theatre, but this is the only one I watch again and again on my TV (besides Jurassic Park, the original!). Cloverfield is by far the best of its genre, with the OG JP coming in at a close second. I would love to see it again in the theatre! Also, i think it is at least genre changing if not "life changing" bc it's the only monster movie (wherein the monster attacks a city) that feels like you are there, experiencing it as opposed to fantastical shots of the monster amongst the buildings. You are there, too. You get very few shots of the monster bc it is about the human experience of it, which is what makes it so compelling. honeslty, i always cry at the end, which no other monster movie does for me. The characters only feel simple bc we are with them for a very short but very intense time. Cloverfield is one of the best, most inspired and creative films, and i love it! That's my two cents.

I was still in high school when this came out and I was OBSESSED with the ARG. I remember looking up everything I possibly could on my newspaper club editing Macs. What a movie! What a marketing move.
  • I think the character criticism is a bit unfair tbh Cloverfield is a story over character example Idt it’s trying to be overly pretentious by having crazy character depth cause it knows what it is and has an identity I think your criticism is kinda based off preference Not surprised the marketing hasn’t aged that well cause the internet has changed drastically but it was definitely groundbreaking at the time and insanely unique so I’ll always have great appreciation for it
  • @luzzapata9050
I didn't know about all the marketing! I don't know if it's because I'm from another country or maybe because I watched the movie later, I don't remember when I did honestly but I do remember being so scare and fascinated by the mystery of a HUGE monster. They did a good job showing the confusion of a normal citizen in a situation like that! I love Cloverfield! And I'm loving your videos! Keep it up!
  • you explaining the hype around cloverfield made me realize i have never felt that way about a movie in a long time
